climbing with gloves

whos climbs with or without grip gloves. i learned without em, but climbing with a modern hitch seems to require them. it seems that when i rap out of the tree i catch the blue grip in the friction hitch and ruin the gloves quite often. any grip glove out there with better construction than the blue atlas grip gloves?

It's an occupational hazard, Chad, but careful attention to how you grab your hitch can help alot. Try using thumb and first couple of fingers on top of the hitch only...avoid a grip that touches the rope below the hitch. I use the blue grip gloves most of the time, the grey winter ones some, too, and while I still catch them in the hitch every now and then, I have better luck now that I am careful about grip placement.

The only time I get the gloves caught in the hitch is when the gloves are getting old and there are flaps of rubber hanging off the gloves.

Like Burnham said, just use the tips!

bandito, the only time i have seen you without gloves is when the pair you have smells so bad that the fungi inside 'em is able to walk itself out of your gearbag.

MB what are those wonder gloves? are they a green grip? where to buy/try?

have you tried a pair of batting gloves or football gloves, their a tight fit and you can tie your knots just as easy.

Yeah, gloves are for sissies, ya gotta be able to feel the tree to become one with it. If you do need the blue grippies though try Ugly Gloves from Fresco, I think Sherrill is offering them now too. The blue stuff just sorta disappears instead of ripping off in strips and getting stuck in your hitch. Cheaper too , last about a week of hard climbing.

I've converted many of the climbers at work to wear the lined Atlas Gloves instead of leather ones. They've come back a day or two later with big smiles.

I like the cheap blue Smurf gloves from Wonder Gloves. A good value. Durable enough for the cost. Atlas last longer but cost more.

If you need to use your finger tips make a vertical slit in the tips of the gloves. This allows you to slip your fingers in and out but still keeps them protected.

I'm not sure where they come from, I go in halves on a case with someone who orders them. I'll try to find out monday. And the rubber part is blue.

ive tried climbing with the blue grippers but my hands seem to sweat a lot.my ground man tried them but found he couldnt let the ropes run because they gripped to much and would peel the gloves off his hands,i like mechanix gloves but they wear out real fast.
