Climbing set up/back up.

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
Somebody was at the tree worker demo and was using a climbing "quickdraw" strap to place a beaner above the vt for a muenter back up to the prussick. I was wondering if there is a pick of that someplace. I think Tom had the demo when that was used.

I was showing that tech. I stole it from Mark. It works very well and it's nice and clean. There's a photo around here some where, try srt backup on a spar.

I just pop the pulley off the VT rig, and run the muenter through a krab under the VT. Easy to apply while weighting the line (after the pulley has been taken off), and descend one handed if needed.

Svein,

Adding a friction device on an SRT descent puts most of the load, and friction, on the device not the hitch. Descending on just a hitch is difficult because it will lock and slide in jerky movements. The hitch becomes a backup to the rappel device.

That would probably work. I use a Trango Cinch with no friction hitch, and it's quite easy to use. Smaller, lighter, and cheaper than the I'd too.
