Climbing gloves

I'm looking for rubber coated climbing gloves that last (more than 1-2 weeks of hard climbing) and that are fairly cheap. Buying in bulk would be fine/prefered.
I'm also interested if any of you have the Petzl Cordex gloves and how do they hold up. I imagine they do not provide much grip on rope.

The cordex last a while but not long enough to justify the cost and like most leather gloves don't afford the kind of grip you're looking for. I use nitril coated gloves. North safety make them. Tacky and they last longer than latex and they're cut resistant. One caveat though is they transmit heat and cold exceedingly well.

I use the Ironclad BoxHandler, silicon coated palm and fingers, but they don't meet your requirement of holding up longterm. I get a solid week to two at most per pair. They have the best grip of any I've used. The Ironclad GripWorx is their other glove with the same treatment on the grip surface. I buy them bulk from different places for $15 to $20/pr as I can find them. Buy a size up from what you normally wear as they run small.

I use the ones from baileys that are 22.00 by the dozen they don last extremely long but they are pretty cheap and i think better than the 5 or 6 dollar a pair ones. I have a pair of cordex and they do last good, but the grip factor is very poor.

I buy smurfies from a company out of Richmond Indiana called stag safety. I can get a dozen of the smurfies for around 6-8 bucks. I can get the knock off atlas gloves cheap through them as well. They are about half the price and are pretty much identical.

I get mine from a local supplier. They stock smurf style gloves from The Glove Wagon. I get them for $1.00ea I'd say I can get 1 week of hard climbing out of them for sure. 2 weeks out of one pair would be a stretch. For some people, it would last 2-3 weeks, but I'm type A. I demote all of my climbing gloves after a week. They get demoted to ground work only. While they are in ground work only active duty, I can get a couple of weeks out of them...

Rob. Have you used nitrile? I tried them once. Sure, they are super sticky to the touch at first, but after a short period of time, dirt gets on them and they become slippery. --At least that was my experience...

Nothing beats Wonder Gloves We use them all summer and a they do last fairly long week and a half to two....they are much better than atlas because they dont get your hand all sweaty and are really well vented...they are also very cheap if you get the big bulk package they are under 1.00 a pair...they are the best hands down

I've been using them for the last 2 years and find them the past for wear and grip. They wash well and regain much of their tackiness. The nitril wears away and doesn't tear off like latex. Once I get to certain stage I'll use them on the ground until they get holey.

I have about 2 dozen pair so I get lazy about washing them.

I like the golden grippers. They are the ones with the rubbery chain grip they last and theirs no left or right you can just swap hands.

I agree with this approach. At a dollar a pair you ask a week out of them. With a 15 - 20 dollar pair, you'd have to ask 15 -20 weeks to get the same mileage, and that's not really practical. Gloves get wet. The right glove gets misplaced. Helpers pick up whatever gloves they see available. I've had homeowner's dog take off with one. There's just a good number of reasons to have a number of pairs floating around with new ones close at hand.

If there were 10 dollar gloves that climbed as well as Smurfie Wonder gloves, I'd pay it for that reason alone. But, you can get em at a tenth that price, one of the greatest bargains in all of Arboriculture.

The nitrile-coated ones just don't perform the same, for the reasons Jamin gave.

I think the atlas gloves are the best I have tried. They don't seem to peel like a lot of other kinds. The therma fit are great for colder weather also. I have also used Stihl brick layer's gloves a few times, and they work alright, but don't last more than a week or two.

I by gloves from the local police shop. There made by Hatch, there $35. They fit like a mechanics glove and are all Kevlar for protection from sharps. The kevlar last for ever and doesnt burn easy from ropes. There just warm enough and light enough I can still feel a pulse on someone with them on!
