Boulder, CO!
Taddiken Tree Company is looking for good people who also climb trees well. Look us up or call 303-554-7035. I only work here so direct all inquiries to the office, naturally.

If I was moving to Colorado, I would seriously consider Boulder. I climbed a beautiful Poplar one New Years Day while there visiting some friends. There were plenty of other fun activities on the list, but the climb was a real highlight. Very cool place. Best of luck!

Rockett will you tell us a little bit about the company and also what it's like to live/work in Boulder?

The company is smallish, about a dozen people including office staff. We enjoy a good rep in town and have a bunch of great clients. The trees are smallish and a little scrappy but we get some bigger climbs in every once in awhile, overall the work is good.

Boulder is a fun place, lots of good food and drink. Outdoor activities? There's tons of stuff to do! Outdoor recreation is the reason a lot of people live here in the first place.

As far as tree work is concerned both the area and Taadiken seem like rising stock to me, good time to buy in.

I'd be all over that, back in the day!

Good Luck!

Btw, with all the outdoor and rock climber types living there, I would think it wouldn't be hard to find somebody local with no experience but lots of aptitude and desire.

We already have some trainees, right now we need one or two good climbers. We encourage everybody to be well rounded and competent in all aspects of tree care but we could especially use some talented pruners.

We do a lot of pruning, small removals would probably be the next most frequent work order, the occasional crane removal or big on rope removal, not a lot of shrub work.

The Front Range is a great area to live.

YOu can play in the snow but you don't have to LIVE in it!

Boulder: 36 square miles surrounded by reality!

I really enjoyed living in Denver and having buddies up and down the Front Range.

Another bonus of living in Boulder...McGuckin's Hardware. THE best hardware store in the world! I stopped there to get a stash key made for my van. Somehow I pulled my keys out of the ignition then set them on the doghouse. As soon as I got out and pushed the door shut I realized my mistake! A call to the locksmith get the door opened and my wallet lightened. What a simple fix...he slipped a 6" plastic felling wedge into the upper right corner of the door then used a thick piece of copper wire to slip in and hit the key lock switch. DUH! I could have bought that stuff right inside for about 5% of what he charged me. No complaints, I'm sure that OUR customers think the same thing about us. It's not the tools its the skills.

Thanks you guys, Tom D and Oceans, for hyping up Boulder a little bit. McGuckins is the greatest, you can get anything there. They don't sell much crap either, quality stuff from wall to wall.

I remember the REI garage sale a few years ago. I spied a nice sleeping bag from across the room and started heading for it. Another guy was 2 steps ahead of me. GRRRRRRRR... I did, however, walk out of there with some great used gear for a few bucks. Plus, you guys have that killer Tea House with like 700 different flavors. Being in Boulder for a few days surely left me wanting to hang out there for a while.

I noticed that Elms seem to be quite a common tree out in CO. There are many around Denver, and a good bunch in Boulder. I was looking up for 1/2 the time thinking about cleaning up all those street trees, especially those along the West end of Mapleton Ave. Looked like an opportune place for some storm damage mitigation.

I hope you all find the right candidate! That's gotta be a fun place to live and work.

The tea house, it turns out, is built on the site of an old gas facility. The soil and the site is polluted with carcinogens so its been closed.

When I was in Boulder in 91, it seemed all I climbed was Elm. Aside from the Cottonig removals , Elm and fire blighted Apple were the most we did.
My biggest fall was on the west side. Tied in at around 120' and at 80-90' limb walking when I heard a crack. That was a scary ride. Bruised up good but nothing broken. I miss climbing out there. To think I was getting paid $6.50/ hr too, I am glad I left that company. Still miss it.
Good luck!

I could count all the trees in Boulder county over 100' tall on one hand, I've never seen a tree 120' tall around here. Sounds like it's been awhile, maybe that fish is growing every time the tale is told!

Wow! That was a "Sister City" project, right? Hopefully one tea hasn't done me in!
