Climbers for Christ

It has to be independent from the cultural and imperial influences emanating from Christiandom for it to be relevant.

I believe you told me about this story when we met. You lived in south America for some years of your child hood if I remember correctly. We gotta hang again Caleb! How's my buddy Zeb doing!
Zeb is doing well Aron. It's crazy to think that it's been almost five years since the end of Zeb's cancer treatment. There aren't many people who can say that they survived stage four brain cancer. I was driving in my truck after Zeb had been suffering quite a bit. The verse of the day on a radio program was:

"As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we consider those blessed who remain steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful."
James 5:10-11 ESV

It may not stand up:

Toyotomi Hideyoshi banned the buying and selling of Japanese people by Portuguese merchants in 1587. He seemed to have had no problem with his soldiers abducting Koreans as slaves to be shipped back to Japan. Didn't stop Japanese taking each other as slaves in the aftermath of the fall of Ōsaka castle in 1615 either.

There were orders outlawing the buying and selling of people, both before and after Hideyoshi, but they often came with exceptions. For instance, in 1604, the Uesugi clan ordered that:

You want to enlarge the discussion to bad behaviour during war?

You asked the question, you got an answer.

In China it’s been illegal since 1910 50 odd years after It was illegal in the US.
Do you think that’s due to Christianity?

So mommy found you a girl, and after a few phone calls, you decided to marry her? Yep, it sure sounds like Jesus really help you sort your shit out?

What made it a miracle was the fact that this happened exactly 30 days after my self imposed 30 day limit. Also trying unsuccessfully to hit it off with a female for 21 years. Then my Mom tells a total stranger she's going to marry her Son and she's basically like ok will do.

Misses the point. It wasn't the existance of the global practice of slavery it was the ending of it. I thought you would be clever enough to recognize that yourself. And thus argue from there.
We just outsource our slavery now. Out of sight, out of mind.. Christianity was huge on slavery, I think the key to most advancements (among others) was education and perhaps farming practices. Yes lots of Christian educational facilities, many built on the backs of slavery.

Except you don't know it was god who did any of those things? You may believe god had influence, but it could have just as easily been Krishna, Allah, Xenu, Flying Spaghetti Monster, a moldy sandwich, or none of them.

If believing helps get you through the day so be it. Go do it in your own home. Where I take major issue with religion is when they try to force themselves upon others. Annihilating entire civilizations, massacring millions, promoting slavery, dictating how others may live. That's where religion gets a massive middle finger. And to say they do it in the name of some higher being to mask their true intentions is naivety at it's best.
Boomslang you can't stick the Crimes of Islam and Catholicism onto Jesus. Especially considering Catholics most heinous crimes were done against Christians simply for Claiming Jesus to be their Authority not Rome. Also it was Christians who ended Slavery.

This has made imprint permagrin on my face for the day , thanks Dylan for sharing.
I thought exactly like Rico too and I laughed at his post at first in my head, but God is great indeed and has the ability to change anyone in an instant in time. If I hadn't seen and been around highly unlikely circumstances in an intellectual way that seem preposterous many times over, but that's the power of which makes me fall in love with the Lord again and again.
Gordon thank you as always for what you bring to the table this was a good reminder for me as I have a terrible relationship with my moms she's a struggling addict on serious downward spiral ,but your right don't underestimate their power , she gave everything to give me life and always did her best to raise me up right before i skipped town at 15 and a half and I'm gonna call her right now 1800 miles away and hopefully make her day better!
One of the first things I knew the Lord wanted me to do when I Started following him was call my Adopted Mother (who I hated and blamed all my problems on) and Apologize for everything. It delivered me from a bitter anger I had been holding onto far too long. Praying for you brother hope the phone call went well.

I don't understand why people think God, who let's innocent children be born with congenital defects, starve to death, etc., would bother intervening in their own, small worlds.

Is God too busy matchmaking, curing isolated illnesses, etc to deliver millions from starvation, poverty, abuse, etc?

Anyone, anyone?

These are the toughest questions, I believe there is a ryhme and reason even for pain and suffering , and it should make us all feel very blessed in our own life's even more when you have empathy for those situations , obviously you do... when I say things like I believe God will have time with all of us no matter what you believe and who knows what the rewards are in heaven for those who are mistreated or born with defect or whatever else is God's will. I can't quote scripture to back this up , but I believe the gospel of Jesus will answer your questions if you search.

I've got a lot of different thoughts and theories about that. Here's one... maybe jehovah or "the lord" did start things off here and was keeping tabs for awhile but then left for some reason. It seems like back in the day he was a lot more engaged in humanity, showing up every now and then to talk to Moses or Abraham or a bunch of other dudes, never women for some reason, but it doesn't seem like he's been around for awhile.

I can't understand omnipotence and what we see before us.

Am I correct that is it part of God's plan for his representatives to bugger altar boys.

Are the altar boys being tested, like Job?
What is God's plan for the great cover-up? Is it to allow the testing of the faith of even more altar boys?
