Climbers for Christ

Not a religious or spiritual person at all, but if some dude (or dudette) comes here claiming to be THE saviour of life I can see a second crucifixion happening right quick. Not too many people happy with the way things have gone these past couple thousand years.
Jesus' second coming is found in Zechariah 14 and Matthew 24. He's not coming as the "suffering servant" like the prophet Isaiah predicted in Isaiah 53 and Christ fulfilled with his first coming. He's going to come as the King.

I've never been in jail, murdered anyone, or even done drugs. Most would say I'm a "good" person, but I'm prideful, greedy and selfish. It's a conscious effort for me to be compassionate and caring towards others. The fact that there is even a way to be deemed perfect and blameless and worthy of heaven is where the compassionate, loving and merciful God comes in.

Funny how all pre-christian (pagan) religions are viewed as hokum, but this one...this one here with all the magic and contradiction...is da shit.

From a secular viewpoint, what separates Christianity from the other religions is the death, burial and resurrection of a Savior. There's nothing for it's followers to do to appease God.

I’ve been in jail and done drugs. Does that mean I am a bad person unworthy of your god‘s love and mercy?

Sounds to me like Your God is some sort of cult leader that is a total nut case. Jonestown comes to mind.
Me, I'll feel much better believing all religions are for the weak minded people who can't deal with dying and never being again. Religions fill that much needed gap that some people just can't handle. But the ones who think every line in the bible is something true and correct, Whew! That makes my head spin.

Relationship not religion. I see some small minded people who visit and bullshit about something they don't believe iinnn ..... hmmmmm , then spout negativity,,, hmmmm ,, riiighhht

I realize he didn't directly answer the question and makes a strawman argument, but he still makes a valid point. You're a product of your environment. If your parents are actively religious you yourself are much much more likely to be as well. And in religion, much like in our modern education system, conformity and regurgitation are more encouraged than rebellion and critical thinking.

I'm praying for you.

In other words, I'm sitting home doing nothing about helping your situation.

I'm curious why "god" chose one moment 2000 years ago to "reveal" himself despite the fact humans had organized religions for thousands of years prior to that. Seems he should have wanted to make sure his creations knew of him from the get-go, not dilly dally and let things get real fucking messy before showing up to the party. And why no sign of him since?

Also, why choose only one place to step up? It's not like they had global communications back then. If you weren't European or Middle Eastern you wouldn't have a clue that the son of THE god was just waltzing around on planet Earth. Asians, Africans, peoples of the Americas...were none of them important enough in god's eye to know what's up. Perhaps if god is that selective of people it's no surprise people are that selective of him.

I think the point is to not ask too many questions...

As well as giving Doc amazing musical talents you would figure your loving, compassionate, and merciful god would have been kind enough as to also grant him the gift of sight? Cue up the mansplainin’
Doc didn't need to see to know about God's love . When his son died in the tractor accident he didn't have that woe is me mentality either. I think he accepted the fact that without pain in life how can one know joy

Without death, how can one know life?

To believe that immortality is possible via a belief system cheapens the life we have.

The opiate of the masses is exactly what it is.

So in an attempt to bring a little joy into Doc’s life your god thought it would be fun to have Doc‘s son Merle first cut his hand on a table saw and then have a tractor flip over and crush him to death as he was trying to get help. And you wonder why some of us small minded folks want no part of this gibberish.
