Here I am thinking hitch cords are kinda spendy….. (for such a disposable item)I've successfully washed hitch cords with unscented Dr. Bronners soap in a bucket for hand washing. I've also used a delicate laundry bag that zips up to place the cords in then put them in the washing machine for a cycle using appropriate soap. Just be sure you don't attempting to wash them in a washer right after a whites load with bleach or include the hitch cords with a load of your best dress clothes.
Jonny makes a good point, hitch cords are cheap, replace them often when in doubt.
