Think I have I noticed in the past that cable (wire rope) will hold up far better to asphalt burn that chain. Short logging chocker may be handy tool (and quick on off.)

And you can push a cable under a log which is way easier than trying to dig under the log to push a chain under it. Pushing a chain is difficult. I have a 1/2" logging choker that is 20' feet long that is fine for skidding logs behind a tractor. Who sells a short lightweight choker that would work good with a winch?

How bout a cheap ass harbor freight handtruck laid on it's back? Used one for a long time to lift the butt end of the limbs/logs to keep the winch rope off of the ground. Worked like a charm
