Chipper winch line?

I just bought 5/16" for my vehicle winch. Much different expectations for pulling my Tracker, weighs 2,500#, out of the sand or mud compared to snaking logs across the street and ground.

Now I'll have to splice a thimble in...with over the shoulder help :)

If I had done a bit more research I would have found that getting it with a thimble spliced in would have cost little more.

5/16”, with a spliced eye, spliced around a chippable hook. That is what we are running, it is more than enough strength for a Bandit 1590 winch, end it allows us to easily fit 200 feet on the drum. We could probably squeeze on 250 feet if we wanted to.

Unless you're doing a lot of LONG drags you're better off with shorter winch lines.
the highest pull load is measured when the cable is on it's first wrap around the spool. At each successive wrap there is less pull power.

All of the winch companies have the formulas for calculating loss of power with full spools. When I was looking I saw the formulas and found that my 2,500# Tracker is unlikely to overload the winch in single line configuration. Even with a full spool, which would never happen anyway

I'm running 175ft of knockoff amsteel in 3/8" on my bandit 200. Picked it up on eBay cheap and splices an eye to girth a rope snap to the end. Fits perfectly. Couldn't get much more if any on there

Surprised the covered winch lines aren't brought up more in conversations like this.

Cost more but far, far, more durable. (People sell them at bargain prices sometimes too.)

Endura Braid and ?????.
