The tongue of mine extends with two pins.. when I leave town or the chipper on a job I take the tongue with me, or stash it.. sometimes I take the pins and leave the tongue off to the side

not sure what you mean about your tongue can you show photos. as that's another thing im looking for is get my chipper extended. But I still want to know what people might be using as a wheel lock if storing outside as you can't trust no one. if there is a chance people will steal it. maybe another arborist forum I should try and ask the same question.

It's not unlike a receiver hitch just much bigger... One rectangular piece with the female coupler, a series of holes down the tube, which slides in and out of a larger rectangular piece which is part of the chipper frame. Two pins, and the tongue extends (or shortens). Some chippers have it, some are bolts, and some are not adjustable.

First layer of protection is theft insurance.

Does the chipper get parked detached from a truck? Attaching it and backing it tight to a building or something unmovable works. Add the wheel lock anyway.

Adding hidden switches for disconnecting the electric fuel pump or ignition.

Motion detector lights and cameras.

I think anyone who has a chipper has theft insurance. and as of cameras and stuff that's not what im asking. if the truck is parked and your out in a about what type of wheel lock do people use. Meaning what would you buy or anyone would buy to protect there chipper?

Hard to hijack a chipper without a full tongue and coupler.

I like the lunette ring-lock, but the weak spot is that two bolts come off and another ring can be put back on lickity split, if the chipper is being 'cased'. Welding the nut to the bolt of the lunette connection would add some security.

I put my safety-chains through the pintle-ring/ lunette, and use a padlock. I'm in a 'safe' area, and have a cheap chipper.

If there are mag wheels, you can put the chain through the wheels and around the axle, and put the padlock in a hard to get-at spot.

Everything will be cut by a battery-powered angle-grinder.

Consider a chipper tracker, if you're concerned.
Inland-Marine insurance, too.

We do the same thing, chain through the pintle and padlock it. Those little grinders are cheap enough it’s not worth the effort to try to protect the chipper too much; locks are just to keep honest people honest. Crooks will always manage to get what they want, that’s what insurance is for.
