chipper death

I am sure it will be licensed at some point that only makes sense. They are just releasing it so I bet they hang onto the technology for a while
just like Vermeer did with the bottom bump bar and Vermeer is still holding onto the four position control bar, causing the others to come up with there own design.

What i find interesting about the habits of people is they always want to do the same thing over and over. When we started running the chipsafe the guys would trip the thing all the time. They were so use to putting there hands in a danger zone. After a very short time they learned the boundary and don't put there hands where they don't belong. They stop short of the safety plane. Kinda like an invisible fence with a dog, so if they move on to a machine with out the chipsafe the new habit of not putting your hands in the machine should go with them. My guys have made the statement "I will not run a machine without it".
They feel safe with it. I am sure that once the various government agency s get a hold of this it will become mandated.

we demo'ed a M15R with the chipsafe system. it worked well enough, although i was definitely all set with the gloves. the wrist band was alright, hardly noticed it on.
ill be honest, when we first had it, i just put it on the outside of the chute (cause it has magnets in it) because i just didnt want to deal with it. but i came around. i dont stuff hands or feet in the chute tho anyways, so i just didnt want wear "accessaries".
what i thought was real cool about the chip safe setup is that a winch hook will activate the system, so the hook cant ever accidentally get into the infeed.
i would prefer to just have a push stick rather then the chipsafe system, but maybe i'd feel different if i was sending employees out with chippers and never saw how they work around them.

cutting logs and brush crotches to fit BEFORE placing them in the chute, saving a branch for chipping last when feeding rakings (if possible, and cause we dont have a push stick right now), using the winch to push logs and long branches into the chipper, all things that I have made a habit of to keep myself safe. i see a lot of stuff that scares me around a chipper, dont know how it doesnt scare the people doing it.

Ha! I'm guessing you boys took some shots at it with those rocks in the chute?
Our yard backs on a sand pit that is now used for swimming and people walk by on their way for a dip. I was doing some wrenching and I could hear rocks bouncing off metal. Chased the kids off and discovered what they were up to...
