splicing credit goes to wesspur. i chose to go with arb master cause its a cover dependent line so i could see the visible wear and tear. chose DMM rings because they are super light and very strong and when spliced into 3/8 tenex you got yourself an awsome adjustable cambium saver

It looks like the tail of the line is cut and whipped.

My preference would be to have something more substantial on the end as a stopper.

Like...

Backsplice
Stitched eye
Seized eye
Stopper knot

hey Josh,

I agree with the two other post and I'll add another thought: with the plain end, you potentially have a safety issue for the prussik. Are you always gonna tie a stopper behind it?

Just a thought: kill both birds by having Wesspur add a ring on the end ... ?

Nice set of friction rings Maui.

But please don't call them 'Cambium Savers'.

The leather tubed Cambium Saver is the original, and earned its name way back in 92.

Work safe friends.

One of the generic names is false crotch, there are others too.

I don't get it. Why is this post worthy?

I'm still waiting for Josh to take his leave from the Buzz. I don't think it's gonna happen.

Until then, we will be presented with every purchase he makes, no matter how mundane.

Its a nice Cambium Saver Josh! But there are some worthy concerns that have been brought up. I would have the 3rd ring installed on the Cambium Saver, and then you will have a more useful Cambium Saver, and a safer one too!

Either way it will do its job, and treat you well. Just don't forget that stopper knot in the end of your adjustable Cambium Saver.

guys calm down. ;) i have a double overhand stopper on it, i just daisy chained it when i took it outta the box to make it fit into the photo. 10 feet is hard to fit in. i decided to not get the 3rd ring because im using it mainly for palm tree descents and for spar work. i have never had a need for a 3rd ring. please add your input on using a 3rd ring. pics too! :)

I have to agree with EZ and viking. It's an adjustable friction control device. Big deal they've been around a while. It's not new it's not cutting edge. The concerns are valid. Hey EZ maybe if we post some more youtube videos on here we can make it more interesting.

Hey there BB!

I can feel the love radiating off your post brother!

Alot changes in 20 years in this biz huh BB?

Now give me my props or I'll bust your chops!

Seriously though, you must admit that Cambium Saving devices were indeed long overdue 20 years ago in this biz.

But even today, what percentage of professional arborists do you think use cambium saving devices today BB? I think it's still less than 50%. Which is an improvement from .01%.

Joshua I only have one question.
Did you get the AFS shipped to you by Wesspur without a firmly set stopper knot?

I know you wouldn't use it without one, but that item will also be shipped to less experienced climbers.

This is probably a safety issue that has to be discussed with their splicers.

I can't figure out the sexy part about this regular friction R&R saver.....

I'll just add a pic of one that looks much better to me ;-)

Less than 50% for sure! No matter what you demand they be called, it wont change their usage.

You should have Tom put under your name "I invented the Leather Tube Cambium Saver in 92" it would save a lot of questions as to who the god father really was, and many people could thank you without you demanding it.

Jomoco,

Do you have trademarks on cambium saver?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I don't 223. The USPTO determined that the leather tubed CS was too much like the hoses used to stake newly planted trees. Despite my arguments that such hoses had static lines securing them and could be made of almost any material. Whereas the leather CS had a dynamic rope moving through it, and has to be made from extremely heat and abrasion resistant material, and because of this was substantially different enough to warrant the patent being awarded. In those days arguing with the USPTO cost about 3K per argument, and I argued with them to the tune of 12K, and still lost. Such is life with govt bureacrats and lawyers.

I did however get to meet Al Shigo, who patted me on the back, pronounced me clever, and shook my hand.

It was only out of professional courtesy that Buckingham and other MFRs named their produts Friction Rings etc rather than Cambium Savers. An acknowledgement of my invention's novelty, and my time and efforts to bring it to market at a very reasonable cost.

I had my 15 minutes of fame, it's over long ago, but I still get kinda funny bout folks calling their stuff a CS, but like salt on a wound, maybe in the long run It's good for me.
