Check out this guys tree

Histree at Out-N-About

It is hard to belive people are still allowed to climb that tree. Potential climbers of that tree need to know that professional arborist believe that tree is about to fall over.

Re: Histree at Out-N-About

This could be a fun thread! Who else has a tree that is standing even though it is pretty far gone?

As for HisTree:

When I'm on site I make sure everyone knows my opinion about the tree.

On the other hand it is still standing and the ownwer Michael...who is a very cool guy...is convinced that the tree will come down in winter. He does not let climbers up on windy days. Not many climbers are there during winter season when the ground is wet.

I think the tree will fail in compression/twisting as the shell of the trunk collapses under the wieght of the tree.

The tree actually tipped a bit a couple of winters ago and the owner added cables to the ground at that time.

There is a platform at ~64' and a zip line that runs to another tree platform ~150'.

As the tree has been declining we have been cutting off the dead parts...so the crown and lever arm has been reduced.

This tree has historic significance for Michael. At some point I believe he will stop using the tree.

Attachment is a phot of tree in fall of 2005. Scott

Another picture just for fun...I've never climbed a rope to get up into this tree I always had more fun using the handhold route! (belayed of course!)

Awesome pics...I'd certainly choose to be the ground guy on that removal!

This past Fall I went to a private job to remove a large white pine, however left it for someone else to do, as on the back side there was obvious lightning damage from the ground to the sky and serious rot near the base. The ants had also left their mark on the bottom 5 feet. The tree in your pics has a similar scar running up the side. Any chance it was the victim of lightning a long time ago?

The scar on this tree was caused when a co dominant trunk failed in the distant past.

This must have been an amazing tree about 200 years ago.

There is another old one nearby in Selma OR. It's just a living stump now but it is massive. i'll try to find a phot to post.
