DSCF2758.webp In the middle of the night yesterday 1/11/16 someone broke out the window of my new silverado and got the remote and entered the garage under my house.

I had 12 saws stolen...ms150, ms200X3, ms 201T X2, ms361, 036, ms440, ms440 Mag, ms 660, ppt 280 echo polechainsaw, power pruner polechainsaw...same size, 2 bg 56 stihl blowers, a Honda eu 2000 i generator.

A couple had my name engraved in them. Not sure which but 150 and 201 had snellorized stickers on them (maybe 461 too as it was ported). The particular saws stolen and for sale and also the unusual combination of saws would tell you if you find saws for sale they likely are mine.

Stihl dealer told me 3 other tree services were hit in the last 2 weeks.

Any help would be appreciated. These are pro saws and I know some Ohio/Ky/Ind guys are on here and may encounter these. Thanks in advance if anyone finds anything out.

If a bad person reads this and thinks hey, I will wait and get him later...might cost you your life.

Sorry to hear about this, Vet.
the "might cost you your life" thing is something I completely agree with too.

Dave
edit- wondering if any former employees from the last couple of years might have known about the remote and/or what equipment you had?

Well that really sucks...makes my 3 week old ms250 from an employee leaving on their own terms look like childs play.....good luck to get your stuff back.

P.s. i'm in ohio.

Thanks everyone for sympathy. I have had friends call me up and some offer to lend me saws and in general a lot of nice thoughts like above. My neighbor even brought me over a big box of bakery cakes and cookies. Helps soften the blow.

This one hurt a lot, especially them entering part of my house. We will have to change the way we do things and alter our ways because of this crime. This is a very nice neighborhood. But people will move away if things like this continue and I have heard this from more than one person. But then maybe where you move to turns the same way.

I have never even considered leaving chainsaws at my business property. You hear the horror stories all the time. That is why I have always brought my saws to my home. My Stihl dealer told me 3 other tree svcs. had been hit in the last 2 weeks. Where does this go. If I get out of my truck and go to get something out of the bed do I need to lock it and unlock it when I walk back to the cab.? jeeze....

That really sucks. Not even the saws as much as the fact that they entered your home while you and your family were there. Glad to hear your okay, the can be replaced.

crap you are having a shitty run of luck right now Dave
really sorry to hear of the loss especially the modded saws,
this is why my saws sleep in the same room as me and my dogs do.
and joy with the law enforcement side of things ?
whats the insurance situation?

Man! This crap is madening. Now you have to change your way of life to close that vulnerability. Lowlifes!

If you know where you purchased them from, the STIHL dealer should be able to get those serial numbers for you and add them to the database. If anyone tries to get them worked on they will alert you.

Thanks Mark, hadn't considered this...will move forward on your suggestion.

It sure sounds like it's all done by the same group of bad guys. "Organized crime" carries heavy penalties, I thought. I would hope the police would be eager to catch these guys, because they will not stop until they're arrested, or move on to another location.

Sorry for your loss here, treevet. The way they got in makes me wonder if you've ever allowed an employee to come home with you. On the other hand, the fact that three similar incidents have happened in a short period of time argues for the idea that a new group of bad guys has recently arrived in the area, and that yes, they are staking people out.

Trying to think like a thief, I'd bet that they just lay their eyeballs on the big equipment in use while you are at work, or in transit, and follow at a safe enough distance not to attract attention to themselves. Then they know where you store the gear, and maybe need only one more day of observing with binocs from a distance to see how entry is normally gained.

It might be nice to keep a small camera with a long lens handy to try to get a license plate.

I used to read a lot on the ArbTalkUK forum, and things are really bad over there. Daylight robberies as soon as they go around to the back of a house, and such. It sucks.

If my memory is correct, (and it's often not) you've been hit multiple times, haven't you Vet? Several times at your former shop/locations, and now this time at your house? Do you have the worst luck ever, or is Cincy that much of a theft hotspot?
If I happen to see one of your saws, I can't guarantee I get it back to you in 1 piece... 'cause I'll be driving back and forth over the MF'er holding it with the bucket truck and I might accidentally catch the saw in the process. Apologies ahead of time.
