Chainsaw Pants, Advice?

Rockettree, i've sent a number of pair over there, no problem.

Not sure whether you get hit with any other import duties on arrival though...

I got some from Trevor, for myself and a co-worker. Maybe 6 months ago.

LOVE them!

but I guess we just like to buy everything new and expensive here at Arbor-X.

Just last week, I happened to be wearing my old SIP pants.

I was drilling a 13/64 hole for anchoring a threaded rod for guy cabling a leaning oak. I didn't have good stability with my climbing line and lanyard. I was using my thumb on the trigger too.

I started to drill and the bit slipped off and went into my pants at the shin area, it wound up about two times before I got off the trigger.

That material is strong. tiny hole from the tip.

If it was none protective pants, I probably would have a hole in my leg and would have had to stop work for the day.

Just a plug for protective pants.

Cheap ones might be fine too. Those SIP's are old and outdated, but they protected me. never thought it would be from a drill bit.

But we like the best where we work. And I think the cool vent ones are likely the best out there.

Trev is cool to deal with. he can get you some cool pants!

Oh and there was absolutely no extra taxes or duties to pay. Once they shipped, it was surprisingly fast and cheap.

Good to hear, thanks.

MY Husky or Stihl pants didn't last as long. Simple cost benefit analysis showed me that the Pfanner's were the better investment in the long run. Yep, rebuilt the husky crotch with elastic material but then the seat wore through.

i wouldnt argue are they worth wearing at all or not. to me, i would rather sweat like a pig and be able to wash one pair of pants and still have another pair to wear cuz i bought cheaper pants rather than have one pair of $400 pants that do the same thing as cheaper chainsaw pants. That, to me, seems silly.

I did that by having my old swedepro and huskys. I eventually bought a second pair of gladiators and now the arborist version. If I'm doing straight ground work then I'll wear the older huskys. They're both about to be retired.

How long are these sips/gladiators lasting you guys? Lets say you have only one pair and worked 30-40 hrs a week would they last more than a year? two years or more?

My chaps last about 2-3 + years, but I hate em. I do wear them daily, all day. I know I should be taking them off to chip, but if there are cuts to be made on brush I know that I wouldn't put them on just to make one cut. So that's why I choose to keep them on when I probably shouldn't be wearing them due to snag hazards.

I've had the Pfanner Gladiators for almost a year now and they're still going strong. When they're washed they almost look new still. I have 2 pairs of them that I switch off daiIy in the summer because I sweat like a pig, and during the winter I switch about halfway through the week or even every other week depending on work. I have had the zipper pulls break off on the right pocket on both pairs, not sure why, but its just about the only problem I've had with them. They fit a lot better (more snug) than any other cheap chainsaw pant I've worn, and I love them. I wear them all day every day, its so much better than chaps, and I dont mind climbing in them (but I also learned to climb in them, so I dont know anything else...company policy) I'm thinking about trying to get my hand on a pair of the ventilated versions this summer, they look like they would feel better in the summer! I dont know what they'll look like after 2-3 years, but they're doing great so far.

I wore my SIP's (non protective) non stop Oct-April for two years and on and off last year due to buying a pair of Arborist Gladiator's and other than replacing the zipper they come out of the wash still looking like new. No lie for two years Oct-April only pants I wore. Now going into the forth year with occasional use and they still look brand new. The Gladiators seem to be made of the same quality and maybe more.

I've had a pair of Pfanner Arborist pants for just over a year, and wear them 4-5 days a week and wash them once a week. Still basically brand new, though I'm starting to get little picks in the fabric on my left calf from my saw chain catching the fabric when I'm moving around the tree. Nothing substantial though and the rest of the pants look brand new. I'm expecting to get another 2-3 years out of these pants. Wore them all summer in 90-100 degree weather with no problems in the tree. On the ground, they would get a little hot, but I'm rarely doing ground work these days. I think that movement wise, they do just as well as a pair of non-protective arborwear pants. The $300 bucks was well worth it for a pair of chainsaw protective pants that are always on and comfortable.

I love the cool vent Pfanner's, that are not currently available in the USA.

wondered if it would stir up something from someone.

I cut a deep groove in the back and set the lines in them.

with two ropes, doing a maryl or half hitch is a pain in the butt; so I've been doing a deep groove lately to keep less drop in the rigging procedure.
