Chainsaw Death

When liars get involved, I mean lawyers we are all in trouble. If we use the right tool for the right job in the manner in which it was supposed to be used we would all come home in one piece. A little common sense goes a long way.

Oxman,
Good point. I never thought of proper bidding as a sfety issue, and in this case it was. IMJ there is always some cause behind the outer experience, ie. he slipped off the roof, that sets the situation up. Overwork is another good example. Watching my 2 year old at the playground it becomes clear. He hurts himself when he is overtired.
What your crew experienced was a "free" lesson, and apparently you are the only one paying attention.
Good luck,
Daniel

Watched a hotshot kid take a dive off a roof the other day. He got up on the roof via ladder. Does this qualify this post as being on topic?

He was standing on the edge of the carport roof, cutting lower limbs from a Sitka Spruce tree. He had one hand on the MS200, and was holding the branch with the other. When the cut branch fell, the stub he was hanging onto jumped up, launching him & the chainsaw over the edge. Both he and the saw were fine, but the hedge below had a notch in it the shape of a pair of legs.

This overconfident cuss could have easily eaten the saw on the way down. Or, even worse, taken out one of us unsuspecting types on the ground. The import of the event was underplayed, and no safety meeting was conducted following the incident, though I was asked to sign an attendence sheet saying I had been present at one. This reckless atmosphere was why I had already given my notice at this circus.

Any discussion of an accident should include a review of how it could have been prevented. This boo-boo could have easily been prevented by clearer job specifications. This climber had just come out of the tree, and the customer wanted even more lifting for view exposure done. This work should have been done while the climber was still tied in. I had already done all the lifting we thought was necessary, and I'm about a foot taller than our buddy Flyin' Bryan.

The homeowner thought he could change the contract without paying additional money, and he was correct. The job was taken over and run by an aggressive customer who figured out how to dominate the crew. We were behind schedule, the job was underbid as it was, and we were hurrying to get caught up.

What's wrong with this picture?
