I've used the Pferd system for years. it takes the depth gauges down every time I sharpen and makes a really good tooth.

what are yall using for depth gauge guides? i was looking at the oregon .25 and .30 from baileys, they any good?

I've been using this product for 30 years with excellent results. Make sure it's the "center drop".

I use Pferd flat files for lowering depth gauges. They seem to last extremely long. Oregon files are OK as well.

Never had much luck with Pferd system of sharpening the cutter and lowering the depth gauge in the same stroke. Seemed to take too much off the depth gauge, creating a higher potential for rotational kickback and boggin in the cut.

I use Stihl files and Stihl depth gauges. Work great and flat files last quite some time.
