CCW while you climb?

I'm in utter disbelief... just freakin leave it at home.. No worries, locked up safe and sound. I'm not against guns, own a 20g myself if I ever need it. However what the actual fuck? I've lived in some very rough areas, seen some fucked up things and never once wished I was packing... If some one wants to fuck with you they will regardless if your packing or not...

You've never worked in east St. Louis after a storm downed limbs and power lines. Emergency tree crews told by police to not work once the daylight was gone.

Now imagine those skinheads wanna steal your saws out of your truck while you’re up a tree, but you ain’t got your gun. Now how are you gonna shoot them?
;)

Some decide to leave it at home or not own any, others decide to take it with them.... what difference does it make to you what someone else does?
Were not talking about someone deciding what color of socks to wear, or whether to have a cheese burger or a BLT for lunch...Were talking about the decision as to whether to bring a hand gun into a tree or onto a job sight....A decision that can have a massive impact on others....

Now post the statistics for auto accidents, injuries and deaths. I bet those stats will strongly suggest we all walk to work.

you are so right... I bet you haven't been high on 7 hits of liquid acid and surrounded by skinheads at 3 am either... Can we keep this in context?
How is working in an area where you have a high chance of getting robbed at gunpoint not in correct context for why conceal carry options is a legit topic.

Oh, but the trucks and equipment we drive are essential to getting our job done.. A pea shooter? Not so much....

How about just keeping the tool boxes locked? I’m having a hard time visualizing being 50’ up a tree and someone trying to rob me at gun point.
If on the ground and I have a gun packed in my harness, and someone comes up with a gun to rob me. Odds are reaching for my weapon, instead of complying might just escalate the situation a wee bit?
I’ve had a few guns pulled on me in my life, and to this day I feel if I had one (and pulled it) it wouldn’t have ended well.

In your East St Louis example, is there a racial sub text I’m missing? 064EBFC9-BF09-424F-82D9-CBAB3E12E29F.png
I’ve gotten myself lost in some ‘bad’ neighborhoods in LA. Still don’t feel the need to carry a fire arm up a freakin tree

I said nothing about race. If you perceive it as a racial issue, that's on you. Race has nothing to do with causal factors for crime rates. Its all about social and economic disparity. You can take people of every skin color and ethnic background and if you back them into a corner socially and economically for long enough, you can expect at least some to not play by the rules. I could have easily picked another city, but I worked in that area so I went with that.

I own lots of guns, I took the concealed carry class. I still would not everyday carry. I personally see it as more of a liability but I get why others carry. If someone wants to carry while climbing, they should have a good reason for it and research what the best and safest options are for doing so, which is the whole point of this thread.

Statistics don't favor taking legal firearms away from mentally stable, law abiding citizens.
I'm sorry that I don't have a pretty chart from a slightly fresher year.

@evo it is far less racial and much more cultural. There are racial correlations to violent crime, but that does not meant that they are the cause. This is a big discussion and rather off-topic.
If someone has pointed a weapon at you, the situation can't really escalate any farther. There is no excuse to have that barrel facing anything that you are not prepared to destroy.

I just don't understand the bias against these tools. It is literally an argument between people who say "do what you want and be a grownup about it" and ones saying "do some of what you want, but you can't do that." Or maybe "I don't understand, and so it must be wrong." Something along those lines.

Back in the 80's I fell timber on a horse logging job in some pretty good sized second growth Redwood. It forced me to be very thoughtful and strategic with both my falling and bucking to accommodate for the horses.. Really enjoyed the experience.
I kind of feel like a soft, coddled baby because I've always had a chainsaw, new fangled climbing gizmos, bucket trucks and the tools that make the job easy compared to the OG days.
