Eh aboot that Lagscrew, I don't want to start a kerfuffle but you need get yourself a double-double and sit back down on your Chesterfield. I think it is a skookum idea and all but I think your may have played outside without your toque one to many times. lol

I think there is a bit of perspective loss going on here. If someone is installing a lag bolt in a tree that has the potential to kill someone ( not saying you are or aren't) then that is the problem. We aren't talking about a life support link in our climbing system. I wonder if you are going to throw out any piece of gear you own made by treestuff or stitched/spliced by ABR because a lag bolt broke. Now I am not saying they shouldn't stand behind everything they sell and nick's response certainly did not suggest intent to diffuse the situation as soon as possible. However, publicly bashing a company because a piece of hardware that (in my opinion) should only be used for low risk ornamental trees, broke, is uncalled for. I don't care if its treestuff, sherrill, comcast, monsanto, etc.

The reaction is disproportionate to the incident. I wonder if pctree has a different ax to grind?

Loss of perspective?
The BMP's state that tree failures are often associated with defects that weaken the tree... they also state not all risk can be mitigated by installing tree support systems... (in the same paragraph).
when installing support systems my goal is to mitigate as much risk as possible. If I install sub standard equipment (I don't use lags, but any eye bolt could have the same defect) because of manufacture error and I'm unaware I have essentially told my client I have mitigated their risk... but in actuality I have done nothing.
I'm not bashing anyone treestuff, sherrill, pctree... anyone.
Just stating the facts of business and trying to protect mine.
And yes I have removed and entire manufacturer (not a supplier) from my life support equipment because of their handling of a failure.

Additional: after reading the newest BMP and it's wording in relation to jlag why is a supplier selling a 5/8" lag? I am not being smart I would sincerely like to know @bonner1040.

A little google-fu and I found these guys. http://www.kdfasteners.com/j-bolts.html Site states they'll do custom designs, anyone want to see about what it'd take to get graded J Lags?
