Cats and raptor climbing highlights reel

moss

Been here much more than a while
I'd put this in the Buzz Vid section but I'm overloading that, we need more flying giant tops etc. in there ;-)

This is a fast moving compendium mainly from 2022. Breaking it into rough sections: rope setting, climbing, movement in the tree, then capture or "delivery" in the case of raptor nest work. Hilarious thing is how much gunfire I hear while doing aerial rescues. Leaf blowers are a big background music as well, no surprise. Churchbells are nice counterpoint too. In the end it's all about the people involved, most at their best, a few not ;-) Enjoy.

Nice compilation, enjoyed them all (both Moss and CT)
that mushroom oak with the owls looked dicey.

Yes. Everything's fine until you're up there and wind gusts pick up and start rocking the tree. Owl nest was in a tearout cavity just below the begining of the large remaining crown. Once up there I could see how deep the cavity was into the structure of the upper bole. Worked out, keep that type of climbing to the barest minimum.

At my most recent cat rescue a local climber showed up. He'd jacked himself 65' out of a dead standing tree more than a decade ago. Wanted to jump but was too well tied in for a split-second incident (aren't they all?). Negative rigged a big limb and blew out the trunk below him. Some part of the tree hit the ground a split second after he did, then capsized onto his rib cage. Wow. He survived and walks and talks, no head injury. He mentioned that he punched an EMT who tried to move him, pain is what it is. He was going to go after the cat Monday and decided not to. His judgement has been improved the hardest possible way.
