Just curious what beetle did the damage. Asian Longhron? There's some tops in a grove of blue gum here that look strikingly similiar. Unusual. So I did some ground searching and viewed with binoculars to fine some evidence, but to no avail. It appears to be getting worse and so I will have to look a little closer.

The damage to the top of this tree looks like the work of the eucalyptus longhorned borer. They go after stress trees.

Most injured or strees broadleaf trees are attacked by one or more species of roundheaded borers or longhorned beetles, family Cerambycidae..

Here another tree pic . Now this tree was not tall but a pain in the butt... Wish i had a crane .

Nice Job!
I really like to work Eucs and that location is very pretty. It looks like the Euc in picture #45491 has been experiancing alot of wind throughout it's life.

Could you please describe the job of each piece of equipment in picture #45483?
I am especially interested in what your fiddle block is doing. Is this just for pulling the speed line tight?

Thanks
Frans

hey jf1962 nice work, i was glad to see you srt ascend and only wear spikes on branches you pruned out. when i worked in ca. yrs ago i was alarmed to see so many climbers pruning on gaffs (until i footlocked and shin- kneed around a big blue gum i didn't understand) was that last tree a ribbon gum (viminilas) or a contorted blue gum (globulus) ? good job and your working in paradise. i think i'd trade my crane for living/ working out there.
