[Captain Hook usage] Why have a separate hook-lanyard, when you could just use the tail of your line?

This just occurred to me so apologies if there's an obvious reason why-not, but I'd fitted my *hook with a ~45' piece of 11mm Mercury line, stuff has the stiffest hand I've ever felt, works well when it comes to both twisting and 'pausing' the line when trying to tilt the hook's orientation......Just occurred to me though, that I already have a >45' tail of Mercury hanging-below me since I climb on it, so it could just as easily pull-up my rope, get its tail and connect that to the Hook, toss on a hitch for 'that leg of rope' and begin traversing on the same piece of Mercury cordage that I'd just ascended on!

Thought of every devil's advocate I could come up with, for instance failure of the hook-system and all that, but cannot find anything about this that makes it any less safe, or less convenient, than my current setup of just wrapping 45' of mercury tail around the Hook to carry it while I'm ascending, now I'm thinking to just carry the bare hook and simply pull up my line when needing to use it :P

Thanks a lot for thoughts on this, provided there's no strong safety worries I'm definitely gonna start some testing of this because, since I already carry a ~20 flipline, my belt is getting too heavy....going to get suspenders/top-piece for it soon but still don't want excess weight, I am too small and FL is too hot :P

[*I should note this is not the branded DMM version but a DIY steel version, I just took my grinders and step-drill bit and made one from a horseshoe, works well enough that I wouldn't be tempted to buy DMM's for $50 let alone nearly-$200! Lol it's just like the Treesqueeze, I love mine - that I made for free in 5min from spare cordage - but would not spend $200 to Buck for theirs :P ]

Not sure what your primary use of the hook is, but I would just throw it on the back end of my lanyard with a sticht hitch or whatever you use to make your hook SRT friendly. 45’ is wayyy more than I’d ever need. But if you’re consistently utilizing your hook for some insane throws that might get annoying. Could always make it easily detachable for when you need that extra length, remove from lanyard and put on your climb line.
