Canopy TIP

Most Canopy anchors I use will be retrieved with redirects in mind.
I use a dmm ring , teufelberger thimbl climb and my favorite is the Texas tug with a pinto pulley. I will use a running bowline with a yosemite if I know I am going to advance it higher later . Also I like to the ART twinline as well , in the right situation .

Richard can explain it better than I can. I'm personally not going to climb on one that is only finger tight. I always have 5 seconds to properly tighten a life support connection. .

That makes sense. Especially in an SRT system. Now a moving rope system would be different. When I first started tree work the guy I was helping only used a strap and shackle for rigging. So I thought that was how it was supposed to be. It worked great if you didn't mind the extreme bend radius in the rope. And as long as the pin stayed at the top. If the pin rotated to the bottom which it inevitably would, the running rope would eventually unscrew it. I stopped using that setup a long time ago but I can still see that moving rope unscrewing the pin. So anything that is life support I make sure a rope can't loosen or unscrew it.

The running bowline is a great anchor. That is what I use for 98% of my canopy anchors. For peace of mind I always use a Yosemite lockoff. The latest TCIA magazine had a test of canopy anchors and the bowline performed the best, for what it’s worth.

Trying to locate this article in the TCI Mag archives, would that be January 18 or December 17? Thank you!
