Can anyone identify this tree?

The picture was taken today (June 19) in King George County, VA.

Looks like a Black Locust tree to me. Locust trees are good for the soil, because they have nitrogen fixing roots.

I agree with black locust.

Another vote for black locust. The growth and die off patterns are characteristic. Also, the bark is quite “ropey”, unlike a honey locust.

I had also thought honey locust. Around here black locust do not have that growth pattern.

I thought Honey Locust at first too, but I don't see any thorns. Honey Locust thorns are usually quite visible.

Usually they are, but sometimes there are trees with relatively few thorns. The bark is quite different. Like @Crimsonking said, Black locust will have "rope-like" bark.

I think the lack of competition really influenced its shape. I’ve seen other black locusts in VA look like this in the open.

Thank you everyone for your help. We're very curious about this tree. It's in King George County, VA, which black locusts are not native too. I don't know what the flowers looked like in spring. I'm going to take more pictures soon. I'm terrible about identifying trees. Thank you again.

Can you get closer? A close up of the bark or even a remotely close pic of the leaves will differentiate the 2.

Black locust was widely planted to grow fence posts, so it is in a lot of places it isn't native.

Black locust, without a doubt. Very common tree up here. Next time though take a picture up close this is almost like a where's waldo.

Both work as a meadow/savanna tree but I guess Gleditsia
