Cab-Over Bucket Truck

That sounds awesome!! Yes turning radius is amazing, Incredible visibility.

This is just speculation but I always thought it would be pretty brutal to get in a head-on in one of these... Also you are sitting right on top of the engine and I am always thinking "If the engine blows is it going to throw shrapnel right up my arse?" probably not.
Any head on that's gonna be bad to the driver of a cabover is going to be bad in any truck, I've cleaned up one bad truck accident and it was a conventional truck, cabover would have been the same outcome. Seen plenty of other truck acidents, conventional trucks only give you a false sense of security.

Um, not necessarily, Timberjack and Treevet. When we're jockeying the bucket around to get her into position in a tight site (in other words, the usual daily routine) we regularly have our knuckle out front overhanging things. Remember, it's a good 10' off the ground, so you can pull up to the shed/fence/parked car/bushes/stonewall/etc until the front bumper meets them. Cut the wheel the other way, back up continue on. If our front bumper were 3' further forward directly under the end of the knuckle with the resulting longer wheelbase, there would be quite a few jobsites we wouldn't have gotten her into.

Uh...that maybe stretching capabilities...just a tad Jeff 25398ca8a1a1613a4f530f97cc4e685d.webp

Not trying to stretch anything, TreeVet. Just telling you how we normally operate. We're regularly trying to sneak the bucket into very tight spaces around here. Sometimes it doesn't work. But when it does, it's certainly worth the extra 15 minutes spent jockeying.

Who isn't trying to sneak into tight spaces. Just not sure buying a cab over is made a priority in the description you put forth. And I run a cabover chip truck. Now there it is worth pursuing one for that use.

I have owned a Mitsubishi FG 4x4 chip truck set up for about 15 years. Great truck. Two things, for big and/or tall people a cab over is very uncomfortable and the drive is not very comfortable due to the fact that you sit right over the front end suspension. Having said that you can shoe horn the truck anywhere. I cant tell you how many times I have been glad I do not own a large American model.

It can be bouncy but I have an air ride seat in my Mack chip dump.
Man, air ride is the way to go. I wanted to put an air bag kit into my FG...while I still had it. I thought it would be great to be able to dial in the rear based upon load, but also smooth out the front. An air seat sure does make a big difference.

Yup, we currently run a cabover chip truck too. Isuzu NPR with a 14' box. That's a lot of chip capacity in a very small, maneuverable package. Just really glad it's not my daily driver - waaaaay too cramped and uncomfortable!

Cab overs are weak? Bull crap. I think Scania is coming to the USA soon. I expect great numbers of sales when it happens. I might even be one of them.
Scania commercial engines are already getting in place. Hopefully the trucks are to follow.

i will say that i love my cab overs, turning radios is amazing. but they are the most uncomfortable thing imaginable to drive, its like driving a bucking bull. 25 miles in my cab over and i feel like my kidneys are going to fall out

I have to say, just my opinion of course, I drove my Isuzu home when I purchased it and that was an 8 1/2 hour drive. Since then I drive my truck pretty often although the guys drive it more, but I have never been uncomfortable driving it... I realize it's not a Cadillac but it's still pretty comfortable. Again just my opinion take it for what it's worth

That Isuzu was the one that started this whole conversation! Hoping to find a rear mount like that come may. Probably not that one but would love it if i could get it!
