Butterfly II Saddle

The butterfly 2 is not all its cracked up to be. It creeps really bad. Climb in it for awhile, hang a saw from your hip, etc. and it becomes a pain. Lack of storage loops and the elastic leg straps. Loved this saddle when I first bought it. After getting a new saddle you couldn't pay me you go back the butterfly 2.

I have had my BFII for over two years now, and have loved it. It is on its last leg, and will NOT be replaced by another BFII. I wish they could clear up some of the durability issues.

As for the Chainsaw paddle/biner/caritool issue.....Komet makes a custom hook for these saddles, that wont move, and is rated for 20kg. The caritool is not rated high enough to hold a full size saw. I learned that lesson with my MS460.

Attached is a pic of my set-up.

Another of the back, you can see the stitching that is coming apart.

3 of us in the company have this saddle, ALL 3 are coming apart here!

BB my saddle did the same thing. Also the elastic straps seem to break. I was just going to order another BFII, but am concerned about the same thing happening. What is the best way to deal with the elastic strap breakage? What would be your next saddle?

Not sure on the elastic strap solution...? Maybe order some new straps, and sew them on yourself? They arent load bearing.

My next saddle is still largely undecided. Ergo, Petzl, Kolibri, TA3, TreeMotion.....?

The Kolibri is a good durable saddle. I would seriously consider it. George at Shelter should have some.

I have a few in stock as well.......the non replaceable bridge. and no leg loop buckles are making me shy away. SUPER comfy though!!

The bridge sucks, no doubt about it. Skylotec does sell a replacement bridge but I have never seen one in the flesh. Step through legs took some getting used to. At this point I like that there are no buckles. Less stuff to pinch me. I would recommend checking your shoes before putting it on. Yeah, I got pooed once, just once though I'm a quick learner.

Yep, the Kolibri is a comfy harness. I didn't notice the bridge thing when I tried one on... kinda rules it out for me.

I like the Komet hook, where do you get'em?

Sucks on the piping coming off the harness. mines ok right now but it's only a little over a year old. Maybe I'll put some shoe goo or something on there to keep it from getting started.

i like the master 2 with the long butterfly bridge. by the way will that be legal for tcc's?

Thanks all for the more pics....so to stop that fraying could you either put some shoe glue on it like suggested or could you put some stitching all the way around...that wouldn't hurt the saddle would it?

the ergo is also something i am looking at...the price range is turning me away because of me being in school

thats why i am looking at the butterfly to get me through college and summer work

oh what are the dimensions of the leg straps...like width wise....

BB, I think Cameron misunderstood my description of 'cheesy.' They're not prone to breakege, they just dont stay adjusted. Get them how you want them and tie a half hitch at the plastic buckle. It's working so far for me.

If you really like the BFII then any of the TA versions will make you happy. The only draw back is the fixed bridge though on version 3 it can be cut off and replaced with rope. You'll find the saddles hold up well.

You might also want to look around for this saddle.

I belive it made by Miller or by Seprian. This will be my next try.
