Butterfly Harness

They also carry the super light Triangle shape Maillon Rapide from France that works great for switching out the leg support. Tony

been flicking through old posts. could someone explain to me what this means please?
i've heard plenty talk about replacing the bridge before on the butterfly but never about modifying the leg straps

thanks

Alot of the climbers including myself had issues with the upper portion of the harness riding up past the hips and into rib cage area. The link shortens the straping between the waist and legs lowering the center of gravity and putting more wieght on the legs. With this set up the upper portion does not ride up.

Any pics of this mod? I've heard of getting rid of the short piece of material which lies between the legs and the upper, but i'm a little confused as to the idea of using the triangle in this application.

me too junkie, i see what they mean though.
Im surprised that little strap didnt rip off ages ago though while we're on the subject.
Also.........i have some 10.5 beal regate left over. can someone tell me if this would be a suitable replacement for the butterfly bridge?

It is just replacing the part that is sometimes bypassed with a delta link. Tony has his with Tree Austria legstraps if I remember correctly.

just went to my local marina today and bought a couploe of wichard shackles. ordered a 15cm long 12mm dyneema sling also, hoping to make a new butterfly bridge.
I was looking at the art butterfly bridge and this seemed to be all it is.
I'm not sure how much i trust those little slings though, i think its a 22kn sling.
Anyone know the rating on the ART one?

You should get a spectra sling, theyr'e rated at 6,500. This is the same thing i did though, two no snag bow shackles w/ a spectra sling. The only difference between mine and the art version is they leave the aluminum rings intact.

Hi Steve

Why not just go with the ART bridge. Your spending money on hardwear & a dyneema sling, maybe as much as £10. Kind of like reinventing the wooden wheel when they already make them with pneumatic tyres! They also come with the hardwear attached & an aluminium ring for biner attachment. A little under £30 & you get the peace of mind of a tool that tests at over 27kN & is rated at 24kN. By the way they are also sewn in such a way that even you used it for so long that you wore out the stitching it would still not fail.

I'm afraid they don't come any better, yet!

All items on my bridge are rated at well over the 5k requirement. Total cost $14, 5 for each shackle and 4 for the sling. Fresco is selling the A.R.T. version for $52 plus 9 for shipping. This seems like an outrageous markup. I know insurance cost can really get you. I think i'll save $47 and make my own, forget about the ring to clip into who needs it anyhow. I completely disagree w/ your analogy as well performance will be the exactly the same no matter which you choose.
