I got an email from Buckingham about this today. I believe this is the item affected.

My saddle has silver pawls instead of the red ones shown in the inspection instructions from the email. It might be the email only applies to arc rated equipment, but the mechanics of the buckles appears identical.

The email gives a list of part numbers affected (example 20122CEMQ1-M), but I cannot find any info on Buckingham saddles that shows a part number. There's only a model number (1371-m) on my saddle, the box it came in, and associated paperwork. Ditto for the Buckingham and other retailer websites.

I always look for the green dots when connecting the buckles. Now I'll also look for the pawls being in the correct position, too.

Safety notice on Buckingham website

The Buckingham pdf Inspection/ Maintenance info

Timely reminder Winchman. Petzl buckle failure I experienced wasn't due to debris stuck inside somewhere tho.

Gunk in a buckle, kinda reminds me of problem with my iPhone - seemed I couldn't get mine to charge or the plug was jimmied somehow - all it was, was pocket lint/ sawdust etc built up over time that prevented charger plug from fully connecting/ engaging. Took a sailmakers needle and poked out a bunch of gunk and it works like new again. Apple sells more iPhone s that way . . . :-)

Wincham, none of Buckingham's Saddles are effected by that this notice. This is pertaining to products that are using Dielectric QC Buckles. The photo you shared in your post is not a dielectric QC buckle, Dielectric QC buckles have a plastic over-mold. The buckle you shared and that is on your 1371-m saddle is a standard Aluminum QC buckle. nonetheless inspection and maintenance of your gear is important and should always be done before each climb.

Thanks for that, but I'm still disappointed that the notice only gives part numbers for the affected equipment. As I said in the original post, the part numbers are pretty much useless in this situation since they don't appear on the equipment, on the package, on the sales paperwork, or in the advertisements. Everything is model number only, and there's no way that I can find to connect a model number to a part number. A notice listing affected model numbers would have much better, I think.

That said, I'm really enjoying my saddle.
