Brush Bandit help

I have a 2001 brush bandit model 90. last week it just shut down. figured it overheated and so I changed out thermostat and that did not help. Still wouldn't start. Took it to service shop in my area that could work on it. Had bad compression so they took it apart and found a blown head. Repaired that and replaced the ECM (computer). Now it still won't start unless you take out 1 spark plug. Any thoughts???? I need to get this machine back!

Thanks, Chris

Yeah, take it back and tell them they didn't solve the problem! It didn't start when you took it to them and it still doesn't regardless of the work they did. What is with the equipment service co's in this industry!?!? We took a stump grinder in for a problem and they created more problems AND wanted $700 for the pleasure. Unbelievable!

Update......still no chipper.

According to the GM folks who had to come out and take a look it appears there is a problem with the TPS (or something like that) throttle positioning sensor i think. Either way they can't get it above 400rpms and the there is a no continutity in the TPS. Will know more tomorrow.

Got my chipper back today!!!! Can finally get back to the serious work.

The main problem was a bad throttle body and bad computer. Those two items led to the blown head gasket and the overheating that shut down the machine.
Everything fixed and/or replaced and chipper seems to run well.
Total price $3200. That added to what I paid for the machine 2 years ago and I still feel I am ahead of the game and now should have a real good machine! Time will tell.

Thanks for tips/suggestions/thoughts.

What engine do you have?

I have a bandit 90 with the 65hp wisconsin v4 air cooled simple stout engine.

I started having problems with my engine and got nervous of the possible down time coupled with expense, so I scouted ebay till I found /bought a low hrs fresh rebuilt replacement motor. Rebuilt my engine with no core goes for average $4500, core exchange/rebuild $3500.
Scored mine for $2100 with new pto/clutch.

I was going to swap the engines, but now I just rob parts. Makes trouble shooting easy when you can just swap parts. Usually the problems are wiring or fuel delivery system, any where from the tank to the carb. Salt corroding the electrical system and dirty wet ethanol in the fuel tank. Could not believe how much debris I found when cleaning out the tank.

Chipper has never run better, till the vise grips went trough the other day. New anvil and a few blades she'll be top.

Had chipper back for a week and everything running great. Yesterday started the chipper and after 10 minutes of feeding it shut down. Won't start again. It seems as though the fuel pump isn't kicking in when the key is switched to the run position. Now I don't know if the computer is still screwed up and it won't let the fuel pump kick on or if the fuel pump just went bad. Any thoughts? Anyone know if they use a high pressure or low pressure pump. The brand is Walbro and the model # is GSL395.

P.S. Also just considering a new chipper. Vermeer 1000 or 1200. Any pros and cons would be appreciated.

I run a '01 200 XP with 86 hp Perkins. Under powered IMO, but does the job. I had problems with fuel, but being a diesel it is a different machine.
I work with a coastal land clearing company from time to time that just got a BC 1200, Wow! It is a completely different machine. Weighs in at 7200 lbs is a little quieter and makes different chips. It didn't hesitate a bit until a leaned against the feed chute, which is way to high, the feed rollers stop feeding until you hit the safety. Major PITA. If that could be bypassed I would consider it for the next machine. Although Vermeer is not nearly as friendly as Bandit when it comes to questions. My 2 Cents.

You'll regret switching from the Bandit to a Vermeer, in my opinion. I rented too many Vermeers before buying a Bandit, and I'm glad I don't have to rent them anymore.

I have an '05 Bandit 90 for sale in treebay if you're looking for a newer one...

I like the bandit but there are not any dealers even remotely close to me and I don't want the same headache I had last month. I am going to demo both a Morbark 12" and vermeer 12". They both have dealers close to me and I am ready for a new machine.
