Breaking Strength of Rigging knots.

[ QUOTE ]
The results of the report confirmed what I learned long ago Mark S.

That knots with only a 90 degree bend in them are stronger than others for rigging purposes.

That properly spliced rope terminations used in conjunction with rated hardware and slings are superior to any knot, but may not be appropriate for the dynamics of negative blocking because such hardware can cut lines it slams into with extreme force against solid wood surfaces.

Your point about going smaller when in doubt is extremely good advice no doubt.

But you lose me at advising us to crash bushes, lawns and under story of our clients rather than rigging.

The wealthier the client, the more anal they get about damage to anything in their landscape, and willingness to sue you if you damage it.

Be up front with every client. If Mrs Jones is a poor retired senior on a fixed income who can only afford two bills to remove her dead leaning tree over her bedroom? Then tell her you can piece it out onto her lawn in an hour, but there will be damage to it that her gardener will have to deal with.

I've done big nasty dead removals at movie stars summer homes on Lake Arrowhead. And believe me when I tell you that their estate manager's will watch you like a hawk, document even the slightest damage you do to anything on their estate right down to their prized Petunias, and make you replace any flower, lawn or bush you're dumb enough to damage.

That's why you charge them premium coin and rig everything appropriately and make dang sure their windowsills, roofs and walkways are blown off before you check with their property manager to ensure the work has been completed to their satisfaction.

That's when the record producer owner of the estate will sometimes come out, shake your hand and slip you 5 bills in cash and a CD of their client's latest rock hit!

Ive always found, without fail, the wealthier the client, the cheaper they are, the more they try to brownnose every extra they can, and the more they try to screw you out of your mooney any way they can, including but not limited too tying said arborist up in court for so long that he just gives up as he cannot afford the legal fees any longer to fight rich homeowners who are cheap and nasty.
Oh but they have a property manager(read useless [pick a different word] who cant find a more meaniingful job), see ya.
I have walked away from nice high paying jobs, because the guy was a straight up [pick a different word], who I did not want to do a thing for, didnt care how much he was paying or how famous him or his client was, I can see a PIA client from a mile away, and steer clear of them for their sake.
The joys of being self employed are that you can give guys like that the finger and walk away, life is too short to cloud my space with no minds who want to piss and moan over a dent in their lawn.
As far as crashing underbush and lawn, I work to the HO's request, if they fine with getting flowers and bushes slammed they get slammed, if not, it all gets rigged.
Pretty simple.

I cleared over 6 bills that day after handing out three bills to the ground crew as a cash bonus for a job well done!

Somebody has to do the job!

And not all rich people are jerks. Just most of them.

Winona Ryder has some mighty fine lookin girl friends visiting at times!
