bought an AMP figure of eight and have a question

ok so i went to baileys and bought an aluminum AMP figure of eight. i mostly plan on using it on coconut pruning jobs and i was curious as to why AMPs version of the bent ear cost soooo much less then others on the market and it has a higher breaking strength.

AMP????

Can you post a link to their homepage?

Specifications can be made up...there are plenty of examples of companies making gear and not having it tested by an independent company. When that happens they get caught making up strength numbers.

The figure 8s from Ace Metal Products likely use a cheaper alloy... compared to some other manufacturers that might use 7075 aluminum, which is harder and will last longer. I'm sure there are differences in the manufacturing process as well.

... and, yes, ratings and specs are often not comparable between manufacturers (because some are conservative and some more liberal it seems with their numbers).

I don't have a problem with AMP (I have purchased from them before), but we all need to do our best to disclose where something is made, how it is made and what it is made from. Easier said than done, unfortunately.

If you bought it from Bailey's Logging Supply, I would think that they would have some kind of spec sheet for the gear that they sell.

Bailey's is getting more and more into the Arbo market every year and keep adding to their selection. Give them a call and ask for a sales rep to get you more info on the figure 8. I've always been pleased with them.
