Bought a Treestuff Bag O’ Rope. Any good stuff here?

I know that I can find a good use for all those ropes. I also like splicing my own tools, so that's an extra good deal to me. I can actually think of multiple uses for most of those ropes, and I am a sucker for a bet with good odds, so I'm likely gonna roll those dice soon. Thanks for sharing.
I also have been working on splicing. Since it's just for fun and some personal tree maintenance, I can afford the time to learn.

+1 for using the Kraken with a block for hauling stuff. I often work on dead ash trees, so no climbing them. I sometimes toss a rigging line up into the tree to break off some of the branches to avoid damaging nearby trees when I fell the ash. I sometimes need a lot of pull on the branch to break it off, and the Kraken is up to the 40:1 MA systems I sometimes use. 40:1 Kraken rigged to the branch, 20:1 other bull rope to a 10:1 3-strand for my Maasdam rope puller. I've been able to break some pretty big limbs with that system. Nice bunch of rope in your mystery bag! I had good luck with the one I purchased a while ago.

Decided to gamble on a bag myself. Seems like stuff I can put to good use, but need some help with identification on two of them:
~40ft of Yale Blue Moon
~50ft of some 3/4" 12-strand hollow braid, Tenex possibly?
~80ft of 3/4" double braid rigging line, I assume

Email the photo to Tree Stuff and ask. No guessing then.
Response I got from Treestuff confirmed Tenex and had this to say about the white rope: "White rope with red tracer we think, not 100% sure, might be XTC-12" IMG_2281.jpeg
Definitely not a 12-strand hollow core rope, so hmmm.... Seems odd they wouldn't be able to identify things they sell (or have sold in the past). But maybe it's just a cast off of something they haven't had for a while so they don't have anything to compare it too.

What if you do get a bag that doesn’t work for you. Will Tree Stuff do anything to make it right?
That's the chance you take when buying it. From their website:

READ BEFORE BUYING!

  • The average Bag O Rope contains roughly 200' of random cordage. Maybe more maybe less.
  • Just like potato chips it is sold by weight, not volume.
  • More than 15 lbs of rope.
  • Your bag might SUCK
  • Your bag might be amazing
  • We don't take requests (unlike your bar's cover band).
  • This is COMPLETELY RANDOM, just like life.

I think you gotta be prepared for it to be a bust. I knew I wanted to give it a try at least once, figuring if nothing else I'd end up with some splicing practice and a bit of fun with the gamble. Bought it with a 15% off coupon, so I feel like it worked out pretty well in terms of value. Certainly not the exact stuff I would have bought on my own, but made a nice short climb line by splicing an eye in the Blue Moon (could also be an extra long lanyard at some point). Made a few different rigging slings out of the Tenex. And not sure my plan yet for the 5/8 double braid, but either a short rigging/pull line or more slings eventually.

That is what I like about WesSpur. You can go through their list and pick the end mills you want. They know you are going to pick enough to make $100. so you get the free shipping, but at least you get what you want. And right now is the season where they have gobs of stuff to choose from. And you get to pick from different length categories. Or, if you are ordering something and you are short of the $99. to get free shipping you can tack on a single piece of end mill rope you can use to boost it just over the $99. limit.
Unless you are the Cracker Jack surprise toy type of person, I see no good in the Bag-O-Rope.

I like the occasional crackerjack box, which is why I wanted to try it out once :) But I totally agree Wesspur is the better option overall
