Boot protection/maintenance

Well its that time of year again. Cold wet and miserable. I want to pass on a company to you that some of you may already know about and some may not. The company name is Obenaufs.
They make oils, waxes, and waterproofers for protecting/restoring ALL leathers and fabrics. Their specialty though lies in Leather protecting, moisturizing, restoring. From boots to bags to car interiors. I only use this product on my oil tanned leathers. Works unbelievable!!

Do some reading about the history of this co.

I have no ties to this co. Just a VERY happy customer.

I'll second that. I've been using their Heavy Duty LP for about a year and it works really well. The leather on my boots still looks almost new after a year.

I use Gore Tex. but I live in the pacific northwet. waxes and seals and goops only last a little while around here. If I had to choose a couple products, there is Sno Seal, a silicone based aerosol or... mink oil, which must be rubbed in and warmed (hair dryer) to get good effect.

Sno seal is a great product but I am telling you the Heavy Duty LP from these guys is like nothing else. No silicone content, which can actually dry boots out. Leather needs to be moisturized. I have been using it on my Wesco's I bought 1 year ago and besides a few minor scratches they are like new. I use the LP every month or so and the Oil every 2 weeks or as needed. Real easy to use, and well worth it if you pay good money for boots.

Yeah but then are there any true figures on how many bees die having the that stuff taken out of their ears

If you use a heavy duty beeswax or other heavy grease-based protector over goretex, you may negate the value of having the breathable expensive goretex boots. The beeswax and others make the leather VERY waterproof (that's good...keep snow and rain out) but minimize breathability, so vapor/sweat stays in, and your feet get cold.

If you have goretex leather boots, there are several brands that make leather conditioners just FOR goretex. Use that to protect the leather AND keep it breathable so you get full use out of the expensive goretex. And remember, just because you have goretex, doesn't mean you don't have to care for the leather. Water logged leather can't breathe, and your feet get wet even WITH the goretex.

I also use Obenauf's Boot Preservative. I get it from Bailey's. They also make a silicon spray and oil.

A trick I use for the application is to heat the leather with a hair-dryer or heat gun. When I put the product on, it melts and gets deep into the leather. I keep applying until the leather won't take any more, then wipe off the excess and buff it with my wife's nice kitchen towels.
