Body care

Hey, Mike. Nice to... read ya. I read before bed sometimes, definitely helps I need to read more often though. Used to read every night at different times but lately I fall asleep watching basketball which is horrible I know. Just picked up "Bicycle Diaries" by David Byrne, my brother passed it to me. Seems promising. You have any book recommendations that you've recently read? What have you been up to? Still working in trees I presume.
Nice. Yeah I'm still climbing trees : ) Yet this thread is hitting home. Purely climbing is starting to take a toll on my body, especially the hips/lower back. May try the inversion table

A good, yet easy read (almost childlike) - Gardens from the Sand, Dan Cavicchio

Are you standing in spurs a lot?

Having a high TIP?

That ‘human being not a human doing’ line is from the Simpsons. 1993.

Well then you know it's right

Something else to add to the no sleep discussion- Go to your doctor and ask about a sleep study. I've had some regular insomnia for the past several months and was finally fed up and mentioned it to my Dr. during a routine physical. He suggested a sleep study and the results were surprising to me. The sleep study I underwent was just one night. The technician gives you some monitoring devices (nasal cannula, pulse oximeter, chest strap device) and you wear it one night. It monitors your breathing and looks for patterns. Turns out, I have mild sleep apnea which is causing me to wake up. Couple that with some of life's anxieties and that makes for a bad recipe for sleep. I'm going to pursue all of the treatment options for sleep apnea except a CPAP. I feel like that is the nuclear option. I'm looking in to a dental apparatus to wear at night that will keep my jaw forward which keeps my tongue further from the back of my throat. Hope this helps.

Go to bed early.
Wake up for a piss at 1ish, go back to bed, and then spend the next 5 hours drifting between lying awake running through your poor life decisions and odd dreams about being trapped in various situations where you are paralysed whilst the danger approaches.

That’s normal right?

Invest heavily in equipment to mechaniz your work (I.E. Spider lift)"This turns tree work from a job into a career" @oceans brother said this to me when I went down to see their operation. That's echoed in my head ever since.

Learn single rope technique if you haven't already.

Good luck

“job into a career”…which could be a good OR bad thing! :)

Always high tip when available. On spurs 65 percent of work as contract climber

Sidenote-Even though i know wear and tear plays huge role in this occupation,
i think alot of poor body posture came from sitting in the slippery seats in grade school. Most could never sit up straight all day long. Weakens core and lower back muscles when you slouch like that at a young age. Some friction on them seats for the youngins would be a good idea

All the hype and buzz around cold plunging I had to try it for myself….. it actually really really works in many of the ways you read about, and Im kinda bummed the river is too shallow/frozen over right now.

We bought a $150 farm tub at Tractor Supply, parked it at end of driveway in the shade and it has ranged between 34*-46* despite the mild winter in CT. Cold tub has become a key piece of gear.

Sleep/rest is definitely something I struggle with.
Work from 6 to 6 running my business, get home and the kids want to play with dad, put them down at 7-7:30 for bed, have tea have a shower, maybe some paperwork. In bed at 9-9:30 wake at 5:30 and repeat.

Can never seem to catch up on sleep or rest enough to feel recharged completely.

Loud and clear, brother! I just mentioned the same sentiment in another thread.

I hear consistency with length of sleep is more important than not. In other words, someone getting 6 hours every single night would be better off than someone getting 8, then 10, then 5, then 7,

Andrew Huberman has a great podcast about this stuff. It’s called Huberman Labs. He’s a neurobiologist and ophthalmologist at Stamford and says he’s dedicated to offering free, noninvasive techniques to help people. A few of his episodes have been very helpful for me.

Afternoon naps help, turn the telly off, sit quietly and close your eyes.

Just wake up before the wife gets home from her work, they hate that.

It’s like ’Is this all you’ve been doing all fucking afternoon, Sitting on your fat arse when the toilet seat needs fixing for the last 3 weeks?’

Make sure all the cushions aren’t bunched up at one end of the sofa to form a pillow either, they’ll know you’ve been laid out.
Rookie error.
