Body care

I forget why Alex Huberman cautioned about melatonin supplementation. I just remember him mentioning it in a podcast.

Some interesting sleep info.
I've read the same thing. Dr Mercola has some great content about sleep and getting the cycle rite as well as supplements to take and avoid like melatonin.

My advice would be, don't ignore persistent pain. Its there for a reason, not something you just accept as you get older and have lived a hard life. It's been a very bad couple months health wise for me. Shit is literally falling apart. Having not had any medical issues and ending up where I am now is a shocker to say the least. Pair that with the mental strain of realizing I'm not nearly what I though I was or should be and immense stress is a catastrophe in the making. Somebody at outpatient registration at the local hospital said to me "Hey, I remember you. You're one of our regulars". Having ridden an ambulance for 30 years in the inner city, I never aspired to be a regular at anything in the healthcare system. Shit is really grinding on my mental health. Sooooooo. Go to the Doctor. Having said that, if they want to fix you with Pharma, find another doctor. Keep looking until somebody wants to actually find the root cause of whats ailing you.

I hear that. I break one cycle and get stuck in another. The whack-a-mole of madness or something like that. You do any hunting lately? Always nice to get in the woods, don't get out much myself these days.

I think Sean mentioned massage, what other kind or r and r kinda stuff you guys doing? I like to hit the sauna when I can or take an Epsom salt bath. Used to ride my bike a lot when I lived in the city which was a relaxing kind of cross training. Planning to get on the bike more once it warms up a bit.
I try to get routine acupuncture, and massage when funds and time allow. I also love going to the hotsprings, or vapor caves. During spring, summer, and fall I can cold plunge in the river behind my house almost daily. All the hype and buzz around cold plunging I had to try it for myself….. it actually really really works in many of the ways you read about, and Im kinda bummed the river is too shallow/frozen over right now.

So sorry to hear about your problems, Steve. You are absolutely right: finding the root cause and addressing 'that' is far better than masking symptoms. Often a daunting task.

Very sorry to hear about your health issues Steve. Stress is a killer and if you don't start dealing with it now it will kill you as surely as the grass is green and the sky is blue. Like yourself life's stressor were wearing me down. After my stroke last spring I knew I had to drastically change how I approached life, or I wasn't gonna be around much longer. 9 months later and I have really begun to feel/see the effect of these changes..

If you ever feel like chatting about health, stress, and getting old and falling apart hit me up...

Damn, had no idea you had a stroke. I'm glad to hear that you are recovering okay. Stress kills no doubt about it.

Wishing all best wishes in our journeys in wellness . It's sure is an ever changing circle of learning as we go through. Lots more good thoughts on here and good thread to come.

I’m so sorry to hear about your health issues last year. I read this and just been thinking about it and how I’m turning 45 in a few weeks and making changes in my life hopefully not too late.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better now!

Steve, there is a commonality linking virtually all physical and mental disorders. There is a book called "Why We Get Sick" by Dr. Benjamin Bikman that might give you some insight as to what is potentially causing disfunction.
