BloodStopper

Bleed Arrest is another powder like Celox. You can buy it several ways, they have a little applicator for severe nosebleeds and cuts that's great for something like a nasty handsaw rip. They have a trauma kit version too.

I carry a 5" wide ace bandage in my pouch with a little bottle of Iodine. I have stocked our first aid kits with plenty of bandages and Iodine. Murcoclear i beleive is a substitute.
If a nasty wound needs to be dressed splash with Iodine use a bandage to apply direct pressure. and elevate if possible.

If blood seeps through that bandage with only direct presure then worry about something to absorb the blood. Most Important is stopping bleeding not soaking up the blood that flows.

alot of those expensive first aid kits are crap. Just some band aids and a bunch of one inch square alcohol pads.

Bandages Bandages for everyone. Direct pressure

Not too long ago I managed to Open my wrist requiring 15 stitches I dressed the wound with only my left hand direct pressure from a 2" wide bandage not a drop of blood showed on the outside of that wrap.

Not sure about gunpowder, pretty sure it hurts like hell.
Basic first aid says direct pressure and elevate. If the bleed is veinal it should stop with a little pressure, arterial bleeds can be difficult to stop. Tornequet directly above closest joint to the wound release every so often to help lessen tissue damage due to loss of bloodflow.
What I can remember from EMT training, many moons ago.

i have a coworker who is an E.M.T and he likes the bandage version better. but you have to know how to use it. apparently you have to spread the wound and push the BS into the wound to cease the bleeding. says they like it better, because it stops the blood, and is easily removed when you hit the ER so doctors can go to work.

hope this helps
