Biltmore Estate, Asheville NC Climber position

Thanks for your input, Holly.

I totally agree with it too.

John,
Usually, "don't quit your day job" is used to criticise a person's talent implying that they could not earn a living from it without other regular employment.

Or are you just warning me of the competition out there and the inherent goodness of a weekly paycheck with benefits, even if the pay is too low.

Thanks all for the input guys. It's all good stuff.

Okay, that's what I thought you meant.

Can't say I haven't noticed about the competition, John. I guess that is why I keep liking it at the Biltmore, but still enjoy my "own" time on the days I have "off" to be boss.

I hope you're staying busy, though, you're one of the top dogs around here. How'd that Feather Drive crane deadwood job go? That sucker was HUGE!

Have a nice day!

well i don't know what pay rates are in nj but obviously they are alot higher than in nc. here 15.75$ is a good pay rate, here a good groundman starts out at 10 at the best. i know pay is higher in other parts of the country but here if you work for asplunduh top forman pay is 15$.hell i was a top climber for them, ran a bucket truck and did everything i was asked and was only paid 12.65$. i applied for the job and if the good lord blesses me enough to get it i'll be proud to work for 15.75. the biltmore estate is an awsome place full of the history of our great country.i would be no less than honored to work for them.

If you say so, wool over eyes on this guy huh.? NC and NJ are more close in pay rates than you think. Had battered a job once with Blue ox tree care in wilmington, he was willy to pay the same as here. Prices on house, gas, milk much the same. Though our taxes are twice if not 3 times more than your. Hope you land the job, you know a school janitor makes the same as that, has better health plan, and better pention. Just a thought for ya.

ain't no wool over my eyes, maybe its on you'rs.i've lived here for 33 years and i know what the pay is like here first hand. maybe the pay is better around charlotte or some other big cities but not here. a school janitor?? who would want to do that 4 a living? we love the outdoors thats why we do what we do. hell we could all probably make more money workin in a factory but that would make us crazy. no thanks i'll take a warm breeze and a tall tree over bein couped up inside anyday.

A low-stress, fulltime gig, that pays $15.75/hr + benefits, to climb awesome trees, maintain a beautiful place, and not deal with the public, sounds pretty nice. Too bad Asheville is so far from Louisville.

who said anything about low stress? As compared to what? Running your own co? Well of course it is but then again that low stress position has next to no potential for financial prosperity. No thanks...

I do agree the Biltmore would be a fabulous place to work, well at least for a while. My experience with Ashville leaves me wondering how you could have a hard time finding help though. When I last visited 2 years ago there was certainly no shortage of out of work hippies looking for nostalgic low paying work. LOL... :P

Well, Nich,
If you see the payrate (15.75/hr) and you multiply that by 10, minus taxes, benefits, etc., that would be the day rate.

Oh and you would need to be here 4 days a week (T-F).

If you think you have what it takes to be a climber for the Biltmore, put in an application.

All kidding aside, I hope your new venture is doing great. New chipper and truck working out for you? Did you end up with a Carlton like mine?

yeah, dont think Ill be going there. Things are going well so far for me. Been able to work a few days a week and make some money and pay off some equipment. We ended up with an International 4700 with and arbortech box on it and we couldnt get financed for a chipper, but were able to get some money together to get a Carlton 2012 for a good price from a guy in raleigh. If you ever need anyone to help you out climbing, let me know, it couldnt hurt for me to work a bit more.
