Big snow brings fun work

Heres the shot from halfway up a neighboring 150' Hemlock. The tiptie block was hung from here. Taken with the Nikon D90 SLR camera in D Movie mode.

Up On De Rooof! video clip.

Good observation. The gable over the porch cradled the base of the log securely against the main roof. If we would have started cutting the work, it would have begun to slide.

If you didn’t have the luxury of having all the bean poles around , would you have just cut and tossed it off the roof ? Or if the house was not a million dollar house would you have just tossed it off the roof? As always nice pictures Roger . You guys do love your job. Excellent job rigging but that was the PNW Dog and Pony show.

well look at the standards....and hope it doesnt kick back and get the one arm you are using...he could have easily cut that branch with two hands....but i am just saying you can use your one handed technique all you want to

Uh....and how would you do that, wise guy? For one thing, that's not a branch, it's a broken tree, it's on a house. Mike it leaning out from a low tie point in the broken stem...how is he going to get out there that far with two hands on the saw? Do tell....and how the heck could that saw cut him......it's extended as far as possible from his body.

S.O.P. for anyone who knows how to use a saw. Textbook? Reckon not.
Real world, yup?

And, of course, when I cut the overhanging part off while tied in to the rest, on the roof, I reached out as far as I could, with how many hands? Guess.....

well his left hand is holding onto his climbing line...he could have easily twisted to put both hands on the saw and reach to the same point

ANSI Z133.1-2006

6.3.7 When operating a chain saw, the arborist or other worker shall hold the saw firmly with both hands, keeping the thumb and fingers wrapped around the handle.

we all know that the text book two handed way isnt always practical when the saw is in and around your body by all means have two hands on it but when your in certain climbing situations one handed is all you have. here is a question why do they make a saw for one handed operation well balanced 020t etc. come on tophopper you have to get in on this

Stihl is German, perhaps you ought to refer to out their standards, not ANSI. Anyone?

Also, the design has evolved to be compact i.e. manoeuvring and cutting up close in the tree.
