Big saw purchase.

We have 3 crews and we run Echo 620Ps with 24” bars as our primary ground saws. We are happy with the price point, especially with their fleet program. We have a Stihl 440 and a 460 that we’ll keep longer bars on (28 and 36”) for the bigger stuff. The 440 just took a dump. I bought an Echo 7310 to replace it. Seemed like a good idea at the time. The crew hates it. They’d rather use a 620 with 24” bar to cut a 40” stump than the 7310 with a 32” bar. I could downsize the bar, but I think they’d still hate it, and it’ll cost nearly $200 for a 28” bar and chain for it. So I’m thinking I’d rather try to sell the saw and just get another Stihl. We don’t have any good Husky dealers around here, and I never got into them, so I pretty much only run Echo 620s and Stihl equipment.
If I buy new, I think I’ll just get the 661 with a 36” bar. Seems silly not to upgrade 19cc for $160. I’d be happy to get something used, but I’m also a little leery about that especially since I’m not a mechanic. The price and backstory would have to be good.
Just posting here to see if anyone has any feedback on any of that. Thanks for taking the time!

The 592xp with 36” light bar even though you don’t have a dealer nearby. We have a 620p with 24” light bar and it is really well balanced and fine power. For that same weight you could have a 462 though. We run echo, husqvarna, stihl, and jonsered and they’re all good. What do the crews run for 50cc saws?

Hey guys, thanks for the responses !

@Njdelaney, They say the 7310 just seems like it has no balls. I didn’t believe them until I tried it in a big stump. Sharp chain, but it felt a lot like running the 620 with a 36” bar, in my opinion. I can’t understand that, but I even took it back to the dealer to have them check that everything was adjusted and performing according to spec. They tested and confirmed that it was.
@Serf Life We have 501Ps in every truck, but they just sit there. No one uses them. I get it. Unless they are really well-sharpened, it seems like it’s just nicer to have the power of the 620. I am going to replace all 6 of them with 620s this summer and just forgo having 50cc saws in the trucks. The guys all say they’ll be happier and better-equipped having two 620s instead.

In general, I am not super worried about the weight of the saw, since we almost never climb with that saw, and it is not even every week that we are working in really big wood. Our two bigger saws are pretty much just dedicated to cutting up crane logs or cutting stumps.
But I will definitely look into the lighter-weight bar as I could really see that being worth the money.
I’ll also look at the 592XP since it seems pretty common to hear people rave about it. I’ll just have to look up the closest out-of-town dealer.
It may kind of come down to how big the price difference is.

That’s interesting they don’t use the 501p and grab the larger saws for most stuff. We run 550xp mk1 and mk2 for 50cc and they see more use than most others, granted we are not in pnw taking down massive trees but even just to limb out trees or swamp out brush there’s so much less fatigue and shoulder wear and tear. To each their own and you kindly gave them the option. The light weight bars are nice for balance but also have super hard wearing rails with the Stihl, Sugi and Tsumura for longevity vs basic Oregon for example.

If your interested in getting a modded Husky give them a call. highly recommended.

@rico I don’t know about Madsen’s. Is that a store, or someone on here?

I find it odd they don’t like the 7310.

Ima Stihl head personally but other than felling saws I have been buying more ECHO products-

Pole saws
355T
PB8010

So far I think they are good value for the money.

I would suggest putting a 28” bar on the Echo-

$110

Oregon 283RNDD009 .063" Gauge 3/8" Pitch 28" Power Match Bar https://a.co/d/cvMd8Br

Husqvarna OEM 28" Chain, H83-93 dl, 3/8".063" https://a.co/d/gNg82l5

There’s a guy on the OPE forum that buys chain in bulk & will be a more economical option.

There are quiet a few used 1122 saws both Stihl 066/660s on the Fakebook.

If you aren’t using it very often, it may make more sense to pick up a used saw.

Here’s mine from earlier this week-
