Big old oak

Here's a Chestnut oak I was working next to last week. It's nearly 6' DBH.

Here's an oak across the street from the other one. It was a very frustrating job. We were contracted to remove some trees on both sides of the street for a bridge rebuild, road widening and pole relocating job. The big oak here was one I felt should've been preserved. It had some decay at the base, but still. Anyway, the engineers said "it goes". Then we figured the town would side with us and preserve it. Wrong! They said "it goes" too? Too bad.

So on the third day I wedged it.

And it went! I can't understand how some environmental committees operate?

thats to bad Mark, did you have to clean it up to ? or no clean up.

Yup, all cleaned up.

anything millable from that beast?

Yeah, but it wasn't milled by us. We dump it at a center that seperates good mill logs.
