BEWARE OF HRC Eye to Eye tails

Thanks BC Canada,

shouldn't you be at the Olympics? I know if i lived closer like yourself I would have saved to go...

but, i guess getting two feet of air out of the bowl like in your picture is more important. eh

I'm super psyched this thread came along. I thought my split tail problem was just a fluke so I just ignored it. After I saw this thread I emailed Sherrill customer service and was told to just take the split tail to the local Sherrill distributor. They just took the split tail and gave me a new Ice Tail eye and eye. After thinking about it I thought that I should have kept it and taken it and had it pull tested. Just down the road from our local Sherrill distributor is a rigging supply place that can do pull testing. That would have been fun to know how bad this problem really is. I'm wondering why there hasn't been a recall yet. I wish someone at Sherrill would tell us what these things are breaking at when they get them back.

A while back I bought a 10mm beeline single eye tail to use with a blakes hitch. I had a bubble form about 4" from the non spliced end. Never really any weight on that exact spot on the rope (just the stopper). I never felt quite right climbing on it either, and tossed it. I wonder if it could be the same thing. The end of the split tail had a stich in it which I removed and I tried to milk out the bubble to no avail.

yeah, it would be cool if they had a translate thing.

Send an email to freeworker. They write and speak perfectly fine english. I have their english catalogue here, so you just mail them and order it....

...my soft heat has at least done it since last summer, where I had it commented at gear inspection to a climbing comp.

I think it's a bunch of random cases over time that people never thought much of until someone mentioned it.

This is one powerful benefit of the internet. Quality control for manufacturers!

In the case of HRC I don't think its random. They changed the "recipe" for a while. They added more, and stiffer material to the core and had to make up for it by losing material in the cover thus loosening the braid. I haven't seen any of the stuff that didn't herniate. Some actually did it while it was coiled up in my gear bag before a knot was ever tied.
I can't say anything about the 10mm beeline other than I have a couple of things made with it and some of them have bumps some don't.

I have returned two of these to Sherrill because of this same exact issue. I have since then switched to ocean polyester and beeline

hernia is the best way I've heard it described. Seems like the core just busts through the jacket. I also saw a bunch of bumps in mine

I agree that there is a problem with hrc. It sounds like they tried something and it didnt work. One would think though, that somewhere along the line, someone would have recalled these cords or let the customer know that they were having issues with them.
