Awe, nothing like some good ol' social-political-economy talk.
I tend to think that it doesn't matter what represented government gets in, as they are all getting backed by big business. I think the business and wealthy in question is not in terms of millions but billions and trending upwards. That's a vast difference to those who make hundreds of thousands a year which is in sharp contrast to what the working poor make. And in terms of capital, once a very large sum of money is reached, that capital is just reinvested into turning more profit to accumulate more wealth. Repeat cycle, hence why the rich get richer. Obviously business is essential to conduct our lives on so many levels and the majority of businesses are great. It's when they get bought out or turn into mega monopolies and when the wealth gets consistently concentrated in the 1% that I consider it a problem (It's actually more like .001%).
As far as government is concerned I wouldn't mind paying taxes so much if the money was spent for the betterment of society but a lot of times it is towards corporate subsidies, the war machine, and bureaucracy.
And on workers getting higher standards of living in forms of pay, working conditions or benefits, that usually, not always, comes from direct actions from workers demanding it.
I think it would be grand if all workers had a living wage and it most likely would lead to a better economy and ironically still make more capital for the extreme wealthy. Win win even using the current economic model.
Good discussion to bring to the buzz when your laid up treehumper. You have time to do research on all sorts of things. Kudos to your daughter. Hope the recovery is going well.
