Best way to move big wood?

Nice log indeed!

Don't know if I've posted this here or not. It was headed to the mill as well (big dude on the back of the loader).

Took out four of these 70' pines this week. Used the AL540 to push over the trees and then take out all the wood. The trees were picked up entirely (not dragged out) by cutting them into a 2-3 pieces each. I really need to get a gopro again to show some footage of how incredible this machine is.

Just need to fluff up the grass with the blower and you cant even tell we were there. Start to finish 3.5 hours with stumps and cleanup.

Used the AL540 to load up this walnut log. Couldn't have taken it to the mill without a big loader like the Gehl. Tried to load it in one piece but the 28' log wasn't going to ride that well on my 20' trailer. Forced to cut it down a little bit.

Beautiful log. Bet that crotch you had to cut off had some value as well. We don't have a lot of those around.
Curious, are the clients privy to the fact that walnut could bring you some return, and do they try to talk you down because of it?

Sorry for the derail. Awesome machines to get that baby on the trailer. Would've been tough with just a full size skid too.

Thats a good question. We don't often cut down walnut trees because they do have so much value. Mills will pay top dollar for the wood and everyone around here knows it. Some people think I'm going to pay them to cut down there tree. My policy is to not even discount my price on walnut removals. It still takes a lot of work to remove the tree and who knows how good the wood will even be when you cut into it. The money I get selling the logs is a just a small bonus. This was the load from before. It would have been a veneer quality log but the metal detector found some metal in it so I didn't get the top dollar that I should have. So to answer your question, I am often asked to do the work for cheap. I give them my price and after a month or so of them not being able to find anyone to remove the tree without damaging property I get a call back.

How well does the al340, 540 push/pile snow? Pusher or bucket?
I wouldn't buy one of these to push snow or dig in dirt. The problem you run into is by pushing down the bucket or pusher, the front wheels raise slightly and now you can't turn. If you had a lot of snow it would be a good machine to load trucks with for hauling away the snow though.

They aren't great for digging, but a tooth bucket makes a huge difference. I don't push snow down here in MS, but from what I've heard, they do great for pushing snow with snow tires. I push a bit of dirt around on occasion. Here are a couple videos.

I love that attachment. Wouldn't want to work without it anymore.
Hey Mark, How often do you use your scoops? How do they get transported? I'm considering 2015 purchases. Does anyone have any other input on the bmg scoops? I really wish the scoops worked on both the mini and the big loader. If they fit both it'd be a no brainer for me.

In your opinion then, would it make sense for me to just buy the big ones as I have both the big and small BMG? I never anticipate both machines needing to use the scoops at the same time. The big machine doesn't go out as much. I don't really want to drop 2 grand getting both sets of scoops. If the big ones work well on the mini then that would be ideal.

They work ok, but the HD scoops are wider and the regular squeezes half as hard. The more dense what you're picking up is, the less it will fill the scoops. Still HD's may not be a bad place to start.

They get used everyday just about. They are simply place on the trailer with the mini and grinder.

Dave carl. Whats the weight on the scoops? Would be nice to carry those and a rake on a mount on a chipper. I like to roll out in one unit, ready to go. Can they be painted black instead of yellow?
