Best used 18" chipper

We run an old 98 Vermeer 1800 with 5000 hrs and a new 2015 1800. When I get a choice I take the old chipper it never jams, it doesn't have autofeed so you have to control the bar on big logs but it has eaten some big wood 22" plus. The new one sucks and jams all the time. The company I worked for in the past ran bandits. Bandits kill it, our 18" bandit seemed like it chipped twice as fast as a Vermeer. We were miles away from a bandit dealer but the customer service was amazing and they got parts to us fast. I don't work for bandit but I am looking for a chipper and would not even consider a Vermeer even at a good deal. The best way I can describe a vermeer is a production bottleneck.

Exactly ! Go bandit or Morbark and don't look back! Plus they don't have the stupid bump bars like the vermeers have.

Yea those damn red bars. Try yelling down to the new groundie who's not familiar with that ''safety'' feature. "PRESS THE GREEN BUTTON!"
Another Vermeer feature that sucks but, a guy lost himself in a chipper around here last spring. This feature would have saved him though. I personally hate that safety bar. Only experienced personnel should operate without supervision.

I could imagine!

"Ummm.. I don't know, just stopped working one day...."
Somehow OSHA does not get the humor in "oops that just stopped working". I agree the Kiss method in machinery is where I like it. Hence why I own a Carlton stumper not a Vermeer the Vermeer wouldn't run with my gloves on. Nope not going to have that in WYO it's cold here til June.

Which 18" bandit model was it?

It's fairly easy to add a lift/crush cylinder any hydraulic shop can help with plumbing a a welding shop cab fab up the arch. I added one to a old 200+ I did all the work and I believe I had less than 500$ in all of it
@AxeTree , would you mind sharing any info on what cylinder and valve you used, and if you plumbed it with a priority valve? I am looking to do this mod and any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!
