Best subscription magazines or?

I'd really like to subscribe to a few magazines or publications. Can anyone recommend their favorites? I know there are a bunch, and I understand its not a one size fits all question. I am into climbing mainly, very much into getting certified and making a full career out of climbing, but I do logging in the off season to pay the bills. I enjoy the web and podcasts but I get sick of staring at my phone and often with podcasts I end up doing other things vs paying attention... anyone read paper anymore? Thanks in advance

TCIA Magazine is a favorite of mine.

That magazine published two sketchy articles over the last couple years. It was pay to play writing, in one case, and it was good old boy tree care research gone bad in the other. I'm sure they have a lot of great content, but you have to know what you're getting into - especially if it involves critical functions to life. For me, those two articles spoiled it, and I'll wait until they gain consistency and editorial independence from Big Iron.

I think having @Steve Connally on a recent issue is a good start towards repairing their image.

Hey Matt

I check out TCIA magazine for business advice. Not a member just online. i get the Arborist News and research tradepub via ISA. Also support Northern Woodlands - if just to fire up the oil lamp on Saturday AM and feel like it’s the 1930’s. Personally subscribe to Rock and Ice/ Trail runner (just to keep head in the climbing fitness game). Also climbing arborist YouTube (like his gear reviews...etc) and educated climber. I read buzz board daily - a lot of the guys are great and responsive- and I check out Uphill Athlete whenever something new comes out (have bought both their books- great resource)

Oh, and I pick up ArbClimber whenever I’m in buying gear. it’s okay- lots of gear review.
So !mixed bag but all informative and useful to me.

oh, and I treat myself to Alpinist Journal every quarter. Again, indirect but still climbing.

This plus books are all great instructional/ motivators and helped me to answer my folks (with conviction) when they hounded me about dropping out of med school to climb trees!!
