Best Rope Ever!

WHAT IS THE BEST ROPE YOU'VE EVER USED?
smile.gif

There is a lot of talk on this climbers forum about climbing rope.
Over the past few years I have used New England Hi Vee and 12 strand,Yale XTC and various Samson
16 strand.

I have not tried any of the newer ropes.

I would like to know what you think has been the best climbing rope of your career so far?

My vote is for Yale XTC cause its hard wearing and keeps its shape well(does not go thin under stretch) and good for knot tying.

VOTE NOW PLEASE!
and give your reasons.

You can also include your worst!

My worst - Old Nylon 3 strand which I learned on.

I am a big fan of manila rope......if I can't find that stuff I get that yellow rope from the hardware store, it's good and cheap and does the trick.

My favorite to date for climbing is Velocity. Once broken in it has a great feel, is very lightweight and doesn't have as much stretch as 16 strand lines. Coupled with Ice Tail for my VT it makes for some smooth climbing.

I'm glad someone brought up this thread. Yesterday we did an enormous plains cottonwood (90 ft.) with a huge spread. I called down for a second rope, tied in twice, on a lead way out. Anyways, the groundie sent up a half inch blue streak, I havent climbed on half inch rope in a couple years. Felt like climbing with a boat anchor attached the end of the rope, from weight of the tail!!
I've been climbing on the poison hi-vy, and the fly, like them both.

Blaze is good rope, I'm climbing on it right now, but I know alot of guys that have had problems with milking. The Fly lines by New England are awesome too, by far my favorite. Velocity is equally as good. For static line the KmIII is a great static line!

Ahh, those were the days!

Velocity. All the way. It does milk out but once the milking is done, it's done. Then it's just simply rocking rope.

Craig, You need to check out Manilene and Promila. They look like manila but are 1.5 times as strong, slicker, and they melt!!!
I will confess that 20 plus years ago Arborplex had been invented but I didn't know about it. I grew up on Manila but was having trouble finding it. I climbed on Manilene for several years and used it for lots of light rigging on natural crotches. It actually worked pretty well....but I wouldn't go back to it except under extreme duress.

Best climbing line? IMO it is the "Arbormaster" Bluestreak and Goldstreak from Samson...but every arborist rope has good points and I have been satisfied with every one I've tried.

I saw someone climbing on it not to long ago.....

Like Justin said, I have never been disapointed by a climbing line, I have used Velocity, Blue Streak, Posion Ivy, and Safety Blue white.

I'm pretty sure Craig has his tongue in his cheek when he posted that.

I all about the Blaze....anyone seen the "chameleon" color yet?

I've been climbing on it, very nice rope. Seems a little skinnier than Fly, I guess Blaze is too. Or am I imagining it?

I love Bluestreak when I want something rock solid and easy to grab or footlock.

There's no perfect rope, just the right rope for the situation.

11mm or 7/16: Blaze followed very closely by Fly
7/16: KMIII for static
half inch: Safety Blue

Like Stumper, all of my climbing ropes over the years have been fine. As time goes along they keep getting incrementally better than three strand manila rope.
