Best climbing helmet

I can't really think of a moment that a twig got up my scull from that angle. There probably have been the odd ones but surely not more than with the vertex vent.
The over all venting opening is (I think) not really that bigger than the opening on the Vertex.

I have used it only through this summer. The Meteor has a styropor (whatever it's called) inner. This is hot on your head during summer. I think there is a firm breeze needed to get the ventilation really working. So, with that in mind, the Meteor + a scull hat (helm cap) will probably get us safely through the winter.

The vertex vent comes with vent covers. A company called Camp just came out with a climbing/ski helmet that comes with a winter kit that plugs all the vents.

Treespotter,

I just contacted a Rock Creek Outfitters close to me and they have the Meteor III in stock; I think I'm gonna go buy one. Now see what you've done!!!!

Oooops, sorry.

I'll buy you a virtual pint or two if that bumpcap doesn't suit your likings.

Well, I bought one; the only one they had in stock. When my wife asks why I need a third helmet though, I'm tellin' her it's your fault. I'm not goin' down alone for this.

I haven't climbed in it yet, but when I picked it up - wow! There is no doubt that it's far lighter than my Vertex and Ecrin Roc. Those are great helmets as far as I'm concerned, BTW. But the Meteor is so light, and just trying it on, it seems like it's every bit as comfortable as the others.

I'm planning to climb some tomorrow so I'll give 'er a try.

The helmet is for climbing and mountaineering EN 12492.
The helmet doesn't meet the industrial EN 397 (but neither does the Ecrin Roc). The Vertex does comply the EN 397 but the Vertex Vent does only partially comply (no electrical protection and protection from molten metal, probably due to the fact that it's got holes in it

).

Just Google these numbers and find out more

I'd still like to know what helmet was most usable for people with oversized heads. If only phrenology was real, I'd be a genius. As it is, well...phrenology is not real at all.

I use a Petzl Ecrin Roc, but thinking about going for a Petzl Vertex to stay with the in-crowd.

Apparently an Italian company has just introduced this new state of the art 'arborist' helmet.
