Best books for new climbers

Been here a while
Hey, guys and gals! I’m sure I’ve seen this question asked before, but here’s another round- what are the best reads for a learning climber? I’m looking for books that are about tools and techniques, not the science of our work. I also don’t want a philosophy debate about excluding the tree science suggestions because I have a specific goal in mind. One more thing, assume that hands on training is already included.
 
Other then that your basically s.o.l. and gotta do it by actions not by reading

That one is top of the list. To clarify, this is not for me. It’s because I learned without books that I am asking to see what resources are out there for people coming in. Good books on knots, history of the industry, or anything that will build appreciation and knowledge of the skills and tools we use. The only book I used (barely) was On Rope. Great book, wish I’d held on to it.
 
Idk man,im not sure what you mean by science, debates, etc.. but theres probably a ton of rigging manuals available online that teach the basics or advanced use of rigging tools.

Hang out long enough, you’ll see why I said it.
 
My fav is human and climbing arborist. There's a few others I look at but those are like my main two cuz one walks you through some stuff (climbing arborist) the other shows you how to do removals and about how big wood can be depending on wieght and stuff. But I look at a lot and get and see pointers from everyone. My other fav is idiots with chainsaws

Human seems like a cool guy, but be aware that a lot of his work is set up poorly.

Stupsi explains the tree
It is less climber specific, but I find that it is harder to teach how trees work than how ropes work. Stupsi teaches you how to read the tree and understand how you can safely find tie in points and identify what work needs to be done. It is also written in a magically simple fashion. Top-tier educational book.
 
The art and science of practical rigging by rip Tompkins, ken Palmer and arbormaster with the DVD’s was huge for me. The science was part of the title there wasn’t any lab work though
 
The 'Science' part of ASPRn comes from the late Dr. Pete Donzelli. He wrote the script for the video series and the booklet. Petes the guy with the full brim hard hat and fuzzy beard

Most things Mattheck has written about trees are quite good.
 
G. Baranek Fundamentals of General tree work? I think that’s what it’s called, I lent my copy to a new hire... he quit after a hot day behind the chipper and never saw him or the book again!
 
I learned most of my climbing skills doing alpine and rock climbing as a kid, they transfer incredibly well.
An old guy once told me “ son if you don’t know knots tie lots “ he lied.
