Bee-line and Poison Ivy

Why didn't you care for the splicing? I use the blue tenex, and have no problems with the splicing. Also, I don't think that Ice tail is a different color of tenex; I used it and the rigidity didn't seem to hold up like blue tenex does. That is, the Ice Tail bound up too tight. I like the Bee Line ok as well, but it seems to slip over time. Overall, I like the blue tenex (spliced).

emr,

Ice Tail is a similar to tenex in that it is a hollow braid construction. Because of this your spliced eye to eye looks and feels very similar to what you are used to with the Tenex. The difference is that Ice Tail is a Technora blend with a 900 degree melting point which will last much much longer than your normal Tenex eye to eye. Another advantage to the Ice Tail is that when spliced it keeps its shape really well instead of flattening out like the 8mm Beeline. I have heard that the 10 mm Beeline doesn't flatten out as badly, but I haven't tried that one yet.

all of the lock stiching seemed to be pulling out. it kind of made us nervous to keep climbing on it. nobody at work knows anything about splicing, so we retired the blue tenex to the rigging box.

Rich -- what kind of splice are you using on the ice tail? I picked some up at the conference amd my coathanger is itching to get into it

I'll put that snap into use soon too, see how that works...

good to see ya!

I've been using the 10mm beeline all season and will definately assure you that it does flatten out quite dramatically. I love the feel of it: very fluid yet grabbs when it's supose to, though it does appear to wear quickly by the way it flattens out however I'm sure this is just aesthetic and never have I worried about it's strength or integritty.

Tenex is sticky, which I don't like. R

Really? How do you mean "sticky"?

All the Tenex I've used has been smooth and silky. Advancing and gripping well. I think that a lot of the climber's experience of cordage depends heavily on the hitch that is used, but thats another discussion.
