Be vigilant, Brothers and Sisters!

Holy shit!! I have been in tree work for many years and that is the most enlightening video I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing. I train a lot of new folks coming into our industry, this will be the first video they see.

Stay safe

For some time now I've been making it mandatory that anybody who's working near me watches this video first. Some of the ground guys for companies I would sub for didn't understand why I would go ape shit if they where dragging my rope with the brush. @August Hunicke just posted a video worth watching on YouTube about ropes in chippers.

I get pissed off when people even step on my rope. My instructor in Arborculture at Penn State had 2 rules, No smoking near a rope and no stepping on a rope.

After watching this video a few months ago, Coworkers and I were trying to figure out what would happen if your downline was caught in a chipper while climbing Ddrt. I think we concluded that you would be hurled at the same speed and force as the dummy in this video straight into your TIP (assuming it didn't break); Your spine would probably snap and/or you'd be generally crushed and then either the engine in the chipper or the TIP or the rope would fail, but by that point you would already be dead.

If the TIP was strong you'd probably get sucked up to the TIP at warp 9, then it would likely break the top out and yank you to the ground straight into the feed. Scary fucking shit. Scary as all hell. I will straight up scream at anyone who picks up brush with my rope in it, I've even disconnected my lifeline because someone was carrying my rope to the chipper on a sub contract climb. They didn't hear my screaming so I unsnapped my kit and kept hollering until they heard me.

This video alone makes a good case for a $3 whistle on your helmet. You may look like a jack wagon on a look cool/power kick but I'd rather that than the alternative, especially if you're unsure about your ground crews' awareness.
